The campaign silly season is kicking into high gear once again and right now we getting word from neighborhood insiders who are impressed with the efforts of a small time candidate facing incredible odds.
Let's be honest . . . The way that elections have historically worked is that everybody picks sides before the primary and the general is ALWAYS an anti-climax. Think about it, we know that Sly is gonna win now AND most of the district races have been decided by 10 points or more . . .
However . . .
MORE THAN ANY OTHER CANDIDATE, MIDTOWN KANSAS CITY RESIDENTS ARE IMPRESSED THAT JOHN FIERRO ISN'T CALLING IT QUITS AND ISN'T GOING NEGATIVE IN HIS CAMPAIGN!!!
The Fierro strategy seems to be constant attendance at all of the neighborhood even that his opponent Jolie Justus is skipping AND bothering a lot of locals by littering this town with his campaign literature and signs.
Generally, people like to see their candidates work even if the effort is often pointless and soul-crushing.
Again, Mr. Fierro faces long odds. Here are just a few challenges he must overcome:
- His own people don't like him: Kansas City's La Raza Political Club has already endorsed Jolie Justus and will NEVER forgive Mr. Fierro for siding with a radical anti-immigrant lady.
- Politicos politely pat him on the head but don't take him seriously: He hasn't evoked any ire of the Democratic Party political establishment BUT they don't regard him as a threat.
- LGBT Advocates Rule Midtown Kansas City Politics - Again, these activists aren't showing their claws YET but that's because Mr. Fierro doesn't have anything bad to say about his opposition. He's running a nice campaign that's based mostly on his experience. And, thankfully, he's getting better at taking pictures - A hard practice for almost everybody in this political game.
Now, you decide . . .
WILL MR. FIERRO'S NICE GUY HARD FOUGHT CAMPAIGN PROVE SUCCESSFUL OR IS HE JUST WASTING HIS TIME?!?!?
Facing a huge deficit, this longtime local activist not only confronts a more established local politico but also a low interest/lot turnout election.
He's wasting his time. There is no path to victory for him unless Jolie dies in which case she probably will win anyway as a write in.

It's lose lose in this race. Some dickhead and they a bull dyke. They might be nice people but they're not my cup of tea.

ReplyDeleteThat being said, I was having dinner in a Mexican restaurant, when I looked up to see Fiero in the next booth. I was situated such that I could easily hear the conversation he was having with his dinner companion. Without going into detail, I would say the talk was definitely racially biased and was about the promotion of Latinos only. The fool that I am, I would have preferred to have heard a more balanced attitude in a possible future public representative.
