Once again, all of the horrible denizens of the Internets destroy another moment of civic pride . . . Sadly, mainstream media ignores this reality and risk facing local families pushing their students to achieve in a public forum. Check it: : Racist trolling casts pall over US spelling bee

I don't care what race these kids are and I think it is amazing how they can master the art of spelling so well and under what must be intense pressure.
ReplyDeleteThe parents say she practiced about an hour a day. I couldn't spell like that is I spent every waking hour practicing.
This young lady deserves only praise for her accomplishments. She is probably a straight A student and works very hard. Her goal is to be a cardiac surgeon and she probably will be one day.
Lets all just give her congratulations and not all of the racist stuff we see many times on this blog.
Agreed
ReplyDeleteRacist trolls = tonys Johnson county target audience
ReplyDeleteIndian parents by and large push their kids to excel. They are generally here legally as well. Two communities in differing shades of brown could and should take note.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame so many people feel they can say whatever they want.....particularly on Twitter and other forums. This young lady and the co-winner deserve so much credit for their achievement. She's a local resident and we should all be supportive of her.
ReplyDeleteFor myself, I certainly wanted her to win, she's worked very hard over the last several years according to what I've read.
so to the haters.....find someone else to bully......
Fascist resent education

ReplyDeleteDo you know what you call someone from India on welfare?
ReplyDeleteNo one knows since people from India don't go on welfare.
Well it's nice to see some supportive comments. But I have a little different thought - the accusation is that this was "racist trolling", but the comments they posted referred to wishing we could see an "American winner" - last time I looked, American is not a race. The reporters need to loosen up on the racist thing - not every insult is racist. This is more a nationalist or xenophobic issue.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it's still wrong - If mommy and daddy came to America to start a new life and contribute to the country, then their kiddos born and raised here are just as American as my ancestors were when they sailed across from England 250 years ago. As far as I am concerned, we DID see an American winner this year. And I am very proud of her. 5 years running she kept at it until she won. Wow, what a great American she is, and what a great one she will grow into as an adult.
