We linked this when it broke but now let's just take a moment to breathe and offer a bit of realism . . .
The Big 12 Tournament has lingered in Downtown KCMO and all the while . . .
- P&L District has failed
- Downtown Crime has increased
- Parking Price Gouging creates a corrupt Downtown biz climate.
- Other than old school Bob Jones . . . There's no place to buy a pair of shoes in Downtown Kansas City.
And so a few more years of this "economic impact" might be a great talking point but it means very little to people who really care about the economics of this town.
KSHB headline: KC businesses talk impact of Big 12 tourney
You decide . . .
Kind of sad that the city never even tried to get the SEC here once. Yet bend over backwards for a conference that isn't even in your state.
ReplyDeleteLet OKC have for all I care.
You are such a dipshit tony.
ReplyDeleteWhatta shithole cowtown!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI know where you can buy a pair is shoes!
ReplyDeletestick your head up my ass and see if you like how they look
Don't hate on Bob Jones. They have a biz model that's better than most of the financial services firms in KCMO. Selling something that people need at a reasonable price should never be underestimated.
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth would the SEC want it's tournament here? Are you familiar with geography, 10:18?
ReplyDeleteIf not, then get a map of the United States and stick a pin in every city that has an SEC school. Now look at where KC is.
If Tony would put on his thinking cap (assuming he has one), he might realize the reason that the Big 12 committed to KC through 2020. It's basically the same reason the NAIA came back with it's tail between its legs.
The tournament works in KC. It doesn't work anywhere else.
The bigwigs once thought that OKC and Dallas would be more centrally located with the influx of the Texas schools into the conference, but the tournament didn't draw flies in either place, and it was an embarrassment to have the championship game played on national TV in front of empty seats.
That doesn't happen in KC, regardless of who is in the finals.
Michael Jordon shoes are sold there too.

All the money that these events supposedly attract comes to Kansas City, pauses briefly as tips for waiters, busboys, and valet drivers, and then heads for the headquarters of all the corporations who own the national chain restaurants and hotels, non of which are in the area.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, the cost to the taxpayers in extra police overtime and other services increases.
Another financially upside-down example of entertainment at taxpayer expense.
Just add it the bill!
Noone wants the SEC here because this isn't the South and no one here want to be associated with the booger-eaters who are fans of the goober Sou' Eassern Con-funce. Sorry Earl and Lerlene, outside of the American Taliban Occupied Territory, no one thinks the SEC is cool.
ReplyDeleteYet SEC football and basketball games score better in the ratings then the Texas 10.

ReplyDeleteWOW...This is just getting sad. Slamming a win for the City? Petty and small -- like so much of TKC's whining. Examples:
P&L was a Bad Idea. Live with it instead of standing on your soap-box screaming "I told you so." BUT it has helped bring 20k new residents to downtown.
Acadime Lafayette at SW High: Another way to help KCPS. $15 mil in private money to fix a problem is somehow bad? At least someone is opening their wallet -- instead of trying to line their pockets. Grow up.
The so called "Toy Train" -- another bad idea, but they're not going to rip up the tracks.
The Downtown Convention Hotel is happening. So is Two Light. I'm not a fan or supporter of either. BUT Pretty cool for the city.
I'm not saying TKC should be a cheerleader for anything. But this blog is sounding like a spoiled little boy throwing a fit because he didn't get his way. Pretty stupid.
6:33 am - you are right on target.
ReplyDeleteParty going on? Count on TKC to poop it! Set your watch by it, just like cum guy and the KKKommenters who frequent this sinkhole of negativity.
