Walking Dead: Pedestrians Confront Increased Peril On Kansas City Streets!!!

Another sign that Kansas City streets aren't safe. Check it:

KMBZ: Pedestrian accidents on the rise in Kansas City

Deets:

"A disturbingly high number of pedestrian accidents happen along Prospect Avenue in Kansas City between 22nd and 39th Streets"

There's a research effort underway about this problem as Kansas City touts transit alternatives with biking and walking built into the discussion despite the impracticality and lackluster public participation.

  1. This will teach the east side to vote against the streetcar!

  2. Too stupid to use a crosswalk? Daddy never taught them to look both ways? Too high? Too drunk?

  3. It's not just Prospect. Pedestrians wander across the street everywhere. New sidewalks are needed all across the metro but i don't think it's going to reduce pedestrian deaths.

  4. Walking IN THE CROSSWALKS is a JOKE in this city.

Pedestrians LEGALLY crossing in crosswalks in areas such as the Plaza or Midtown risk being hit from the Mad-Max drivers who plow on thru.

Pedestrians have the RIGHT OF WAY.

I'm not talking about the idiots who don't know how to walk with the streetlights. I'm talking about people who legally cross, only to have drivers gun it thru while they're in the crosswalks.

    Fucking idiots.

  5. And public works is doing what? Nothing. Thanks to Sherri, patty, and Ralph!

  6. KC drivers think they are entitled no matter where you go. They act like it is their road and you must be trailer trash to not be driving. The worst offenders seem to be little blond girls driving big SUVs holding something to their ear. I can just imagine their important conversation, "some homeless guy just walked in front of me."

I have placed fist sized rocks next to the intersections I use most. The next time I have to dive out of their way I will come up throwing, and let the legal chips fall where they may.
