TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! POLITICS OF KANSAS CITY COMMUNITY POLICING DEBUNKED AS VIOLENT CRIME DISPLACEMENT TREND TAKES HOLD ACROSS THE METRO!!!

Recent violence in Kansas City is exposing unfounded theories and sketchy rhetorical tactics presented to the public in the fight against crime.

Respectfully, no matter who presents it . . . It's our Constitutional right to take apart any political theory that guides the local discourse and see if it stands up to scrutiny.

Accordingly . . .

Conveniently before an election year KC Nova launched a "community policing" effort that hoped to engage neighborhoods and intervene in the lives of at-risk or high-risk residents in order to reduce crime.

The pitch was simple . . . Local crooks would be made aware that police and prosecutors knew of their activities and if they didn't change their ways . . . There would be consequences and probably jail time in the future.

In addition to this tactic . . . The KCPD also stepped up their effort to connect with the community.

Both of these efforts are commendable, honest and earnest attempts to reduce violence.

But the reality is that a great many people in Kansas City simply suggest that record-breaking cold last year had more to do with lowering the murder count than any other factor. Sadly, TV newsies and pundits are simply too scared, career-orientated or not really that interested to raise this point of fact.

But more important than the weather . . .

SOME KANSAS CITY POLICE INSIDERS AND LOCAL CRIME EXPERTS BELIEVE THAT HOTSPOT POLICING AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH SIMPLY CREATED "DISPLACEMENT" AND PUSHED MORE CRIME OUT TO THE BURBS!!!

From the world's most accurate encyclopedia, here's a definition of the displacement trend . . .

Crime displacement is the relocation of crime (or criminals) as a result of police crime-prevention efforts. Crime displacement has been linked to problem-oriented policing, but it may occur at other levels and for other reasons. Community-development efforts may be a reason why criminals move to other areas for their criminal activity. The idea behind displacement is that when motivated criminal offenders are deterred, they will commit crimes elsewhere.
#######

It would be nice to think that community participation and interventions helped turn youngsters away from crime. But maybe that's not the case. Just ask one of the many crime victims at Oak Park Mall.

Maybe KCMO crooks just decided to take their show on the road. Recently, Kansas City crooks were  charged with suburban crime to the east and that offers another talking point for this theory.

So, rather than blindly accept any argument about crime . . . It's important to do a bit of research and see how the debates stack up . . . Kinda like how we enjoy the work of Penny Mathis.

Remember . . . Other than thugs who kill people . . . There are no bad guys in this debate . . . Well, maybe politicos who want to take the credit for work done by the rank and file police and several dedicated grassroots workers . . . Also, we're open to any defender of KC Nova to explain that the very clear displacement trend isn't a reality and consequence of current well-intentioned police tactics.

But overall, this post and collection of info is merely a way to encourage people to think critically about the ideas that govern public safety policy.

  3. NoVa bears no similarity to actual community policing like is done in KCK and regularly gets officers out of their cars and into neighborhoods where there is at least a chance they can form some relationships with the residents.
KC NoVa is half policing, with collaboration with the feds and other components of law enforcement and prosecutors, and half hand-wringing do-gooders who make believe that the bangers are going to settle for $8/hour jobs at warehouses in Lenexa if they can just be talked out of their current lives of mayhem and crime.
The first half probably has had some effect.
The latter is simply another excuse for funding the same old nonprofits who meddle in whatever they want in the community, including the schools, and have no actual responsibility for anything.
There's very little more of a relationship between KCPD and the black community and pretty much no cooperation when it comes to reporting crimes and suspects.
    Back to basics.

  4. Thugs will soon learn that unlike the KCPD suburban cops arrest criminals. Of course being arrested I suburban Jackson County still allows those arrest to go free with a slap on the wrist from the prosecutors office.

  5. I'm at the tail end of a 35 year law enforcement career with at least some of it spent in the Metro. I was around when community policing began and when the Community Action Teams began to be assigned.

Playing nice with assholes, criminals and the neighborhoods that produce them is worse than a joke; it is a waste of vital resources.

And like all police 'special projects' CAT inevitably became a sheltered workshop for people who were unsuited to police work in the first place.

  6. I encourage anyone on here to go to UMKC and view the program being used to detect and link criminals.

It is scary and cool all at the same time. It will put into perspective how important "metadata" and you personal data really is. For all of those who say they don't mind if the government reads and snoops on all of their communications might change their mind after a visit to UMKC.

  7. When a drug dealer moved into a house in my neighborhood police told me there was nothing they could do about it. The house was busier than a McDonald's drive thru. I had pictures, video, etc. but police wouldn't do a thing. We finally had to take matters into our own hands to run him out.

That is great, but be careful, or THIS will happen to you.

Any push back against black criminality will be met by, if at all possible, indictments for those who resist.

  10. Jim summed it up nicely on Monday.

"I begin to understand why the death of Ferguson, Mo, teen Michael Brown sent such shock waves through America last year. He truly symbolized our country: an overgrown, oafish, wannabe thug making one bad choice after another until his final, suicidal lurch against authority — followed by all the exculpatory lying on his behalf: the “gentle giant,” hands up, don’t shoot! This is exactly how America acts on the world stage these days. We are the Michael Brown among nations, high on exceptionalism, stoned on entitlement, swaggering moronically from one place to another grabbing what we feel like, smashing things up as we go."

  11. Glad those motherfuckers are facing more charges, even if it is in thug-friendly KCMO. Increases the odds that they will spend more than one year getting their assholes enlarged.

Just ask Officer Runnells or the DEA agents at a sex party.

  18. With the new charges for suspects in the She's a Pistol murder case, there is an unmentioned fact. John Bieker who was shot and killed, but not before he killed one and shot another assailant, did a public service. These guys shot other people, and if not stopped would likely shoot more. The police did not stop them, an armed citizen did.
This is proof that the police are only one part of the criminal justice system. An aware and armed populace are essential, and I might say more efficient means for dealing with violent offenders.
