TKC QUESTION: COULD THE UPCOMING BILL NIGRO VICTORY AGAINST 'DUMB CARDS' PUT KANSAS CITY BAR PATRONS IN DANGER?!?!

Kansas City Westport mogul Bill Nigro is one of the nicest local biz people in town even if he doesn't like hip-hop and holds a longstanding and well-documented disdain for City Hall regulation.

Most conversations with Bill inevitably turn to the subject of his contempt for so-called "dumb cards" which he says hurt small biz and impede the employment process.

Now . . .

THE DUMB CARDS COULD SOON BE A THING OF THE PAST AND THAT MIGHT CLEAR THE WAY FOR FELONS TO START WORKING IN THE KANSAS CITY BAR SCENE!!!

Here's a comprehensive write-up:

Northeast News: An ordinance was introduced at last Thursday’s City Council meeting that could potentially eliminate employee liquor permits . . . Restrictions against felons which prevent applicants from obtaining the City Hall documentation would thereby be eliminated.

Mind you . . . There's a lot about this ordinance that's up for debate but let's not forget that this move is reminiscent of the previous "ban the box" effort at City Hall which trumpeted felony forgiveness in applying for employment.

Now, City Hall politics and the rhetoric waged against the "prison-industrial complex" will impact an industry beyond local government.

You decide . . .

DOES FELONY FORGIVENESS IN KANSAS CITY'S BAR SCENE MAKE SENSE?!?!

We'll try and talk to Bill about this more in the very near future and he might not realize that one of the few benefits of the legislation is that he'll now have less of an impediment to creating a diverse workforce. And maybe they can convince him that there are many types of hip-hop beyond the mere hardcore gangsta rap he has cracked down on in the past.

Developing . . .

  3. Glazer use to trade for dope and sell whiskey and beer to a Mexican dude back in the nineties.knew the dude well,he'd drive around selling cases of beer after the bars closed
He was one of the dudes that went to the slam for two years when glazer was indicted, I believe in 2001.
Lot of guys went down but not glazer.

Yep,good ol glazer skated right outta that mess..wonder how..hmmm

  4. KANSAS CITY is the ONLY municipality in the STATE that requires liquor cards from its "Regulated Industries" Department.

Current KCMO policy essentially bans felons from working in the hospitality industry -- which is simply STUPID. As it is, a convicted felon can't tend bar, serve booze -- or even touch it -- in a bar or restaurant.

AGAIN...STUPID. Not to mention another way for KCMO to rip-off hard working people.

BOTTOM LINE: Get RID of these idiotic cards.

  5. If a felon did his time and paid his debt there should be noting requiring forgiveness. Unfortunately we never make anyone pay their debt or do their time and then force them to spend their entire lives being fucked with over shit they did when they were 13 years old. It's not the culprit it is a fucking pussy society that can't seem to deal with an offender and be done with it.

  6. KC = Home for felons. That should be our new slogan.

  7. I think CKMO is the only city in the country with this stupid regulation. Has nothing to do with diversity, hip hop, or anything else. It's just a freaking shakedown style racket that probably originated from the Mob.

  8. Westport still sucks dick.

  9. The whole employee permit liquor license thing is just a waste of time and served only as a profit center for Kansas City. It should be eliminated. Felons should not be discriminated against for liquor licenses. What was the point of that? They can still buy liquor. If they can buy it - I don't understand why they can't sell it or serve it as a waiter or waitress. Makes no sense.

  10. I had relatives visit here one time who never have seen KC and when I took them to Westport they asked how did this area become so blighted?

  11. 3:22 You don't think at all. Some require health cards also. You want somebody with TB, Hep C etc serving you?

  12. Well, if felons can populate the halls of Congress, and even reach occupancy in the White House, maybe they should reconsider the "dumb card" policy.

  13. Food Handler's Permit and a Liquor Card are two different things. Most people who move to Kansas City aren't Hipster's looking for Tech Jobs so they don't spend down their trust fund.

  14. Hell, you have to have a liquor card to cut up lemons and limes for drinks. You can't touch a keg, a bottle of liquor or case of beer without one, even though you might not be serving any drinks.

    Stupid regulation.

Think of it like this...If the city came out and said that every employee working in a bar or restaurant had to be drug tested, 99% of them would have to close up shop because of the lack of folks willing to work their asses off for slave wages who also have clean pee.

I bet Glazer couldn't pass a drug test.

  15. If Bill Nigro has anything to do with it there must be some shady shit going on. He is as corrupt as it gets.
