All of this budget talk leads us to an important Kansas City discussion of education priorities.
Take a look:
Ideas for Kansas City Schools: Focus on Teachers
The main point from the Show-Me guys when it comes to improving Kansas City schools:
"By spending too much on non-teacher personnel, KCPS is draining resources from both funds to pay teachers in the short term and teacher pension funds in the long term. Cutting back on non-teacher staff—or perhaps just restricting growth—would allow school districts to better meet their financial responsibilities to teachers and to demonstrate a real commitment to the children in the classroom."
Hopefully, this discussion will guide the KCPS into the future as education funding becomes more scares and the needs of this town continue to grow more diverse . . .
Sounds good to me. Give the teachers a mop and a bucket and tell them not to leave until things are spotless. Wont hurt for those school marms to learn how to cook either
ReplyDeleteUnlikely, tony. Public education is the new patronage. Academic results are important in so far as they keep the wheels on the bus. The driving force behind all of it is size of workforce and the more employees(in any capacity) the better.
