After the previous Pioneer Woman statue was stolen and sold for scrap . . . Here's a couple of stories touting the new sculpture:
Examiner: "Whereas the woman in the previous statue held a baby in one arm and a bucket in another, the woman in this statue holds a baby with both arms, and both mother and child have their heads slightly tilted up."
KMBC: "Dave Aamodt, curator of the National Frontier Trails Museum told the Independence City Council that the $40,000 needed for the new statue will be covered entirely by donations and funds from the Truman-Heartland Foundation."
More in a bit . . .
In other news today Independence advised all citizens to lock up, alarm and have live guards om every bit of their property 'cause if you think the city gives a shit if you loose $40,000 you are wrong. To further emphasize the importance of this new crime prevention program anyone in the city limits reporting a crime with be charged as a public nuisance.
ReplyDeleteThe appropriate replacement for the new age would be one hand slapping the kid and the other outstretched receiving a government check.

ReplyDeleteIf this statue is supposed to truly represent the pioneer mother, then having her grinning footlishly holding a baby isn't exactly accurate. As a direct decendent of a pioneer family, I know for a fact that these women worked side by side with their husbands, sun up to sun down, in the fields, fixing food, taking care of gardens, and yes, taking care of their children. This statue is ridiculous...
