Tow truck drivers have been ripping people off since the first one was invented. Your best bet is to ask your local mechanic who is a fair towing company and then use them after you have called them and talked over their fees. The ones the cops use are know rip off artists and the cops don't care.

I mean they risk their lives every day to protect and serve us - no way the police would prompt tow truck drivers to inflate the cost. Maybe stop funding them and hanging on their nutz so you can see what the police department is really about... lazy, dumb fuckers who scam people for a living - legally.

ReplyDeleteI do my best not to spend time in that shithole of a town, but when I need a tow, I call my insurance company. I pay them less than $10 more ever six months for free tow service whenever I need it. I've never gotten a tow bill, and the guy always shows up pretty quickly.

ReplyDeleteAll of you need to go do your homework before you assume all tow truck companies are there to screw you over. IF YOU HAVE FULL COVERAGE AND YOU ARE NOT AT FAULT YOU PAY YOUR DEDUCTABLE AND NO TOW FEE. If you don't OR you are at fault then they won't bill you more than a couple hundred dollars because they know when it is out of pocket and they MOST DEFINITELY know what bills are like. Would you rather there be another accident in the same exact spot and then die or suffer serious injury all because you want to be cheap? If you are in an accident you are a distraction and a hazard to drivers until you and your vehicle are removed from the area. Don't risk your life to save a couple hundred dollars. Talk to the driver about a price when he or she has your car loaded up and both of you are out of the line of fire. They have families to go home to and bills to pay just like everyone else that serves our community and THEY PUT THEIR LIVES AT RISK TO HELP YOU.

ReplyDeleteFor a comparison on cost, my wife got her car towed from I-35 & 75th to a garage on 87th St. for just $65.
If I got charged $700, things would get ugly ... you can hire good "helpers" for less than that.
