TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! RAGE OVER MAYOR SLY COMMISSION FOR NEW 5TH DISTRICT COUNCIL MEMBER UNSUPPORTED BY KANSAS CITY CHARTER!!!
The commission formed by Kansas City Mayor Sly James to replace disgraced Council Member Brooks is stepping outside of the bounds of the City Charter according to insiders frustrated with the recently invented process.
To wit . . .
KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDERS HAVE CHECKED THE CHARTER AND THERE'S NO EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT ANY COMMISSION TO ELIMINATE APPLICANTS FOR A VACANT COUNCIL SPOT!!!
Here @ TKC we've noted complaints against this process that are now starting to increase . . .
Don't just take our word for it: CHECK THE CHARTER . . . When it comes to rules covering vacancy there's no word of Mayor Sly's commission tactic to control the vote:
Sec. 208. - Vacancy.
Council member. Any vacancy in the office of a member of the Council occurring after the end of the thirtieth month of a term shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment of the Mayor and Council.
READ THAT CLOSELY . . . THERE'S NOTHING IN THERE ABOUT THE MAYOR CIRCUMVENTING THE PROCESS WITH HIS OWN COMMISSION!!!
Now let's make it plain . . . The commission to look at applicants is anything but independent and its being stacked with folks Mayor Sly James has already appointed. Remember that he has a pre-signed resignation letter on file. So this is Mayor Sly basically hand picking the new member.
Here's what some insiders are saying:
"The Mayor is twisting the charter and taking voters and other elected officials out of the process. By having the nominees vetted by his people, he's eliminating any real choice that he doesn't approve. Too bad the Council is too scared to stand up against him. But what voters should know is that our Mayor isn't afraid to bend the City Charter to his needs. This is unfortunate, because the Charter is in place to prevent exactly this kind of power grab."
There are more than a few voters complaining about this MAYOR SLY JAMES POWER GRAB that doesn't mind bending the rules in order to pretty much put another vote in his pocket.
Developing . . .
Sly loves a power grab and very few people will complain to his face.
ReplyDeleteThere is no point in replacing the position. The voters will replace the position in four months. It's not like no one in that position will do less than Brooks was doing anyway. He was almost never in any public meetings...
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing that says he can, but nothing that says he can't.
ReplyDeleteSo this is even MORE POINTLESS than the other post!
Other than RAGE. there is RAGE, as always. Unsourced RAGE.

Agree. This is all a waste of time. Just leave it open. Someone new will be elected in a few months.
ReplyDeleteKind of lets you know what Sly is all about. The rules don't apply to him.
ReplyDeleteGreedo and everyone else that wants to blast the Mayor on this are clueless. Read it again, he and the council could simply appoint their own replacement BUT NO, they are seeking applications and then vetting them as fast as possible to fill the position. Same procedural rules as KCK and their authority to replace a councilperson. How long has that seat sat vacant.
ReplyDeleteJust frustrating when nobody knows what they are talking about.
Black Lives Matter, except Sly James Matter's More!
ReplyDeleteI think alot of shady things happen in that building, but this isn't that big of a deal. It says the council and mayor can appoint a person, it doesn't say how they have to get to that end result. hell they could pull straws if they wanted.
ReplyDeleteThe commission is simply their chosen method to determine how to fill the vacancy. As it is their duty to appoint (...*shall* appoint), and the Charter is silent as to the method, there is nothing wrong with this process. As long as the Mayor and City Council agree to this process, they are performing their duty as described in the Charter.
ReplyDeleteIf they wanted to have a group of eligible candidates draw straws, as long as that was the method the Mayor and City Council chose to determine their appointee, it would be legally as valid.
I wonder why anyone would think a vetting process is deserving of outrage, when the Charter actually lets them pick whoever they want?
Twas the week before Christmas
ReplyDeleteAnd on every page
We read post after post
OF ANONYMOUS RAGE
The posts were put up
By the blogger with care
In hopes that the citizenry
WOULD RAGE IN DESPAIR
But then in the comments
There rose such a clatter
It's not illegal,
So what does it matter?
haha 4:07 great minds think alike
ReplyDeleteThe city council is the commission, they should review all applicants. Not some show committee.
ReplyDeleteSly seems like a crook but he's such a good crook that everyone is afraid of him. Not a lot of people have courage in KCMO politics. That's why we have a government that makes its own rules.
ReplyDeleteGreedo you idiot, the charter is just a document. Sly knows that real power is about controling money.
ReplyDeleteWhat rage?
ReplyDeleteWho's the insiders?

ReplyDelete7:52 PM You are all complaining about TGR but who among you will have the guts to file a complaint and challenge her eligibility? If you cannot raise your hand, shut up and let her take the seat and admit you are cowards.
ReplyDeleteNIGGER James is going to do whatever the fuck he wants and there's not a damned thing you can do about it!!
