New York Times: At Home and at Work, Black Police Officers Are on Defensive

"Over Thanksgiving, Sgt. Damon Hayes of the Kansas City Police Department said his mother became very emotional when the conversation turned to recent police killings. How could a police officer be scared of an 18-year-old, she asked?
“They’re all murderers,” she said, according to Sergeant Hayes, 50.
"He tried to calm her down, explaining, “We don’t wake up in the morning hoping to murder somebody.” But, he added: “She was not hearing anything that I said. She was angry at that point.”
"Yet he has also found himself looking for ways to help white officers understand the communities they patrol."
Look closely and readers will see a tacit support for the claim that African-American police in high ranking positions will reduce crime . . . That's the theory that's touted in Kansas City despite the fact that the biggest factor to lower crime levels has been a shameful "ADJUSTMENT" to the way the stats are compiled and a record breaking cold spell earlier this year. Meanwhile, Kansas City was recently named one of the 10 most violent towns in the entire nation.

Many people who initially don't believe in slavery or treating blacks as second class citizens reverse their opinions after living around and amongst blacks. Like many from the north-central USA, I was raised to presume that all races are equal and that blacks have been oppressed over generations by whites. However, upon moving to Chicago and Indianapolis, and then Memphis, and living amongst blacks in predominantly black neighborhoods, I have developed nothing but disdain and disgust for most blacks, maybe 80 percent or more of them. I enjoy working and living with Asians of all sorts, Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans. I've worked in Japan, four European countries, Canada (Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary), Dubai, and Kenya (Mombasa and Nairobi).
ReplyDeleteI have concluded that Africans and American blacks are very, very different than all other ethnicities. They are (on average, as there are many exceptions) emotional, illogical, oversexed, generally unintelligent, unambitious to the point of frank laziness, and they have a continual enunciation of their self-believed victimhood and desire to obtain things from others without work or a fair exchange of value.
Over many decades, I have come to conclude that, in general, the category of blacks should live apart from all other ethnic groups. They do not share the beliefs, behaviours, morals, motivations, or thinking styles that virtually every non-African ethnicity share between and amongst themselves. Blacks are the one category that, again speaking generally and not for every single black, simply doesn't fit in with the others and frankly I think never will.
Nobody should ever be a slave, but I do not think that we are being realistic if we presume that all humans are the same. They are demonstrably not. And the one singular group that stands apart from all others is the black "race" (I'm not sure the term is appropriate, but everyone seems to use that term - I would simply call them a category of people).
And I expect that was (and remains) a reason that Northerners who do not live amongst as many blacks as the Southerners have one belief system about blacks, and Southerners and Northern urbanites who interact with blacks in predominantly black areas have a very different view based on their experiences. Ultimately, our beliefs are shaped by our personal observations. And that is how I came to view blacks as being, on average, incompatible with a white/Hispanic/Asian/Pacific Islander/Native American culture and society.
