Police trying to figure out why teens fought at Independence Center
So far, social media, parents, racial profiling and some mistaken blame on recent protest movements have taken the responsibility for the terrifying scene.
Reassurance from the management:
"Mall general manager Angela Pyszczynski released a statement about the incident Saturday in which she stressed that the mall maintains a zero-tolerance policy for all criminal activity. Police said they believe the event was isolated and that it won't be repeated."
But the question remains . . .

I stopped going to the Bannister Mall after finding myself and my small children in the middle of a similar incident. Immediate action is needed or it will impact the mall.

ReplyDeleteIt opened as the premier mall in the metro. It featured the prototype Harley Davidson Store, and several other "firsts" and flagship stores.
THEN: It became a hangout for black teens. This group does NOT add to the mall economy. This group DOES increase mall crime -- which in turn drives PAYING customers away.
That's when the better stores began to leave. The anchor stores struggled to survive. And more storefronts became vacant.
The bottom line: Black Teens Killed Bannister Mall. Period.
Could it happen in Independence? Absolutely.

Independence Mall is no scare when you can buy crack at Crown Center and the Plaza. I'll take a chance in the meth town mall before I'd ever consider entering KC after dark and dealing with the crack and heroin crowd. I don't know if that meth town label from 1998 holds up anymore. In 2010 Independence had 7 meth lab investigations while Jefferson County had 228.
ReplyDeleteMy experience driving through Independence is that it is far from perfect, but sure as hell not as many as bad as what I observed on the ride through KC to get to Independence. Jackson County kinda sucks in general, but nothing can match the shit hole that KC has become. I think the difference is that it seems that Independence actually did something to effect positive change while KC still manages to equate arenas and toy trains with building a better community.
Security needs to arm themselves with nightsticks and then use them liberally whenever something like this arises. Only by sending those who disrupt our society home with their skulls split open will we regain control.

Finally, we need to stop using the birth of a feral rat as an entre into the welfare system. If you have a baby without the means to support it you should be jailed, not rewarded and your ability to reproduce terminated.
The big difference between Bannister Mall and Independence Center is the police departments. While the KCPD's primary mission is to raise revenue for the city the IPD actually looks to arrest criminals.

This happened all over the country on the same night in at least a dozen cities. It called the School To Prison Pipeline. There need to be you men condition for solitary confinement and the Independence Mall was glad to help, military, federal, state and local police push these kids into and push these kids into the malls across the country and begin their draconian journey into mass incarceration.

It's in the blue springs school district and has homes in the $250,000 and $400,000 plus to the northeast, southeast and southwest (I.e. The pink hill road area, stone canyon, the arbores, the cliffs, etc.)
