TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR CREATES CITY MARKET PARKING CRISIS!!!

Shopping at The City Market on the weekends is one of the best longstanding local traditions that makes Kansas City one of the most unique places in nation. Sadly, ongoing toy train streetcar construction troubles have put this local custom in jeopardy.

It's not so surprising that local mainstream media is working hard to suppress the consequences an ill-conceived plan that has never met with widespread voter approval . . .

THANKS TO KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS OUR BLOG COMMUNITY HAS THIS IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE CURRENT CITY MARKET PARKING CRISIS!!!

Sure, Downtown denizens might have seen this in the latest City Market e-mail blast but the ruckus that some locals are making about this hot mess has yet to reach the local MSM . . . Here's the word . . .

Parking in the neighborhood

From the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department's Traffic Division

Construction on the streets around the City Market has made finding legal parking more and more difficult for those trying to live and shop in the area. This is creating a situation where motorists are simply disregarding signage and parking in no parking zones, crosswalks, bus stands and anywhere else they are able to find a space for their vehicles. This problem has been brought to the attention of the Police Department and for the foreseeable future, the Traffic Division will be assigning Parking Control Officers to the area to enforce parking regulations. The enforcement could involve ticketing and towing of vehicles. We would ask for everyone's compliance as ticketing and towing is not our ultimate goal, but if necessary we will take action. These efforts will begin effective Saturday, August 16th.

Tips to avoid parking issues:
--Shop early or late, avoiding peak market hours
--Consider shopping on Sunday--great options with a smaller crowd
--Park a bit further away and make it part of your exercise routine

The reality is that THIS HURTS CITY MARKET BIZ . . . And, sadly, KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS offer an effective solution that's hard to debate . . .

"Re: Parking in the neighborhood. I am sure the City Market is not the only business in KCMO that is suffering because of the trolley construction and certainly won't be the last. To avoid parking problems I would urge folks to visit The Brookside Farmers Market. No trolley there and no parking problem."

  1. That's what Sly and the Council just don't understand, the economic theory sounds good but in reality their actions have hurt business and not helped.

  2. This was all posted on the City Market's Facebook page several days ago. So this is neither breaking nor exclusive.

  3. But the city council does help business with their TIF'S

  4. But wait. This was by design. Anyone who has been following this understands that one of their goals is to eliminate surface parking lots (but not before making their friends who are building a new River Market parking garage super rich.) The city even waived an ordinance that required businesses to maintain minimum parking amenities for their customers, and they're taxing parking spaces.

I'm not taking a position on this strategy; simply pointing out that this isn't an unforeseen mess. If you are invconveniened by driving, well then next time, take the bus. Or streetcar.

  5. Not even interested in going to that madhouse-lunatic asylum known as downtown at this point.

  6. 9:21, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you are possible new around here. When TKC uses the breaking and exclusive tags more often than not that is for schtick.

But keep up the good work!!

  7. So, again, Fortes raiders come through with complete understanding of difficulties tax paying citizens have with a situation created by the city itself. The answer is send the troops in and fuck over the citizens. Well, Fuck You Forte! I'll drive the other direction this weekend and spend my money where it is appreciated and not where I can expect a crooked ass police department to call one of it's tow buddies to help your efforts to protect and serve. Cocksucker!!!.

Well, lose pounds then get laid.

  11. Better yet, stay the hell out of KCMO. No need to go anywhere there that you can't find on the Kansas side and we have plenty of parking without the city trying to rip you off.

    1. Thanks for checking in.

Enjoy your historic levels of corporate welfare and your bland totally anonymous suburbs that would not exist if it weren't for actual places like the city market.

Have fun in your subsidized and mostly empty parking lots though.

  12. If anyone would like to sell their property at current market value along the streetcar route I will be first to buy in a very long line. River Market is going to be one of the biggest winners. Parking sucked down there before any construction. One season of construction for a system that delivers more customers than that area has ever seen. Forgive me if I am not crying for them right now.

This is a made up crisis by TKC. There are so many worse things going on in KCMO metro right now. Streetcar is just one for the lemmings.

  13. Street car is responsible for the ISIS crisis in Iran.

  15. 12:23 - You know what's outside the windows of my downtown apartment building? Empty parking lots and subsidized buildings!

  16. 12:27 here. I almost forgot the vacant office buildings and fresh smelling, modern sewer systems.

Way to use that sewer bond money on real estate speculation in the northland!

  17. Shame on City Market. They are committing economic suicide.

  18. Was there around noon today was able to park within ten minutes of waiting in the aisle of the northeast parking lot. Was big deal. Try parking at the soulard market in St. Louis sometime. Tony calls kc a cowtown and then complains about big city parking problems. There are not that many joco plates to be seen and northlanders will return at the end of construction if it bothers them.
