Kander Announces Recount for House District 27
Jefferson City, Mo. — Secretary of State Jason Kander today announced a recount of the August 5 Democratic primary election results in House District 27 has been requested.
According to state law (RSMo 115.601), recounts are not automatically triggered, but must be requested by the candidate who was defeated. State races are only eligible for a recount when results are separated by less than one half of one percent of total votes cast. Of 2,854 votes cast in the Democratic primary for the 27th district, Bonnaye Mims received 1,433 and India Williams received 1,421 votes, a difference of 0.42 percent. The recount was requested by India Williams.
Per state statute, the recount will be supervised and certified by the secretary of state’s office no later than September 15. The office will train a team of staff members that can be dispatched if assistance is requested.
Local election authorities in Jackson County and Kansas City will determine the date and time for recounts to take place, and a bipartisan team of election judges will conduct the process. Media may be present to observe the proceedings.
