TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY STREETCAR TOY TRAIN SHOWDOWN!!! GLORIOSO DEBATES DEJANES IN CONTEST FEATURING MONEY LAUNDERING ALLEGATIONS, INSULTS AND TALK OF RACIAL CONSPIRACY!!!

Funding for the upcoming Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar was the subject of a great deal of fighting this weekend during ongoing community meetings in local neighborhoods.

To wit . . .

AN EPIC BATTLE BETWIXT POLITICAL CONSULTANT STEVE GLORIOSO VS. SHERI DEJANES HAS CAPTURED THE ATTENTION OF A GREAT MANY MIDTOWN KANSAS CITY DENIZENS!!!

The hot topics . . .

THERE WERE ALLEGATIONS OF MONEY LAUNDERING AND RACIAL ANIMOSITY AGAINST TOY TRAIN STREETCAR DETRACTORS!!!

CRITICS OF THE TOY TRAIN HIT HARD AGAINST COST AND TAXES BEING KEPT SECRET FROM THE PUBLIC!!! NOTE: REALLY GREAT STUFF ABOUT HIDDEN ADA COSTS RAISE AN IMPORTANT POINT!!!

LAWYER JOKES VS. POLITICAL CONSULTANT CASH QUESTIONS DOMINATED THIS LIVELY KANSAS CITY DEBATE THAT SEEMED TO DEVOLVE INTO NAME CALLING AND PERSONAL INSULTS!!!

Even better . . .

FIRST ON TKC WE'VE GOT BOTH SIDES OF THIS KANSAS CITY ELECTION CONFRONTATION SO THAT READERS CAN JUDGE FOR THEMSELVES!!!

First . . .

The Streetcar supporter analysis of the debate:

"Glorioso debated DeJanes this weekend . . .

See this link for a remarkable statement she made. Folks on the east side already wonder about the racial insensitivity of the anti streetcar crowd, like DeJanes, who live in south KC. This will only make them more suspicious. Even some who are not yet sold on streetcar really want the Prospect MAX.

"Also Ms. Sherry went a bit crazy when Glorioso pointed out half her donations are from laundered money through the so-called Missourians for Responsible Government. Her Smart KC committee will report tomorrow that more than half their money, $75,000, was laundered through the same Show Me Institute fellow travelers who opposed renewal of the Earnings Tax. Had they prevailed it would have devastated the city cutting huge chucks of city's budget for public safety---fire and police.

"Glorioso attack what he called "secret money," who no one knows the real source, that's corrupting the system. He told her that she should return it. DeJanes didn't respond."

Now . . .

Here's the opponents of the streetcar expansion saw the debate . . .

"Someone (hopefully you) will expose the misleading tactics of the City and their main damage control lobbyist Steve Glorioso . . .

There was a meeting on the streetcar issue after the 11:30 Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Sunday called by Father Brian. Approximately 40 people were in attendance, both sides were respresented--Steve Glorioso, the paid lap dog for the City and Sherry DeJanes, a lawyer for the opposition SMARTKC. Ms. DeJanes presented some very credible information in which she documented that we are being lied to especially about the costs for the project. For example, here is just one small fact...the City is not including expenses in their estimate to make curbs ADA compliant for streetcars which will be in excess of $60 million.

"Most of those in the crowd were against the ballot measure (except two plants that consultants probably cajoled or paid to attend). By the way, the Church will be assessed over $4,000 a year more for special property tax. As you know, nonprofits even religious ones are not exempt from this scheme. But it is all about doing something to help the poor isn't it (as Mr. Glorioso kept saying)? No advantage for the banks, lawyers, construction companies, real estate speculators and other City parasites.

"Well, when Mr. Glorioso couldn't counter Ms. DeJanes with facts he resorted to name calling. First, he made a demeaning reference to her because she was a lawyer (guess a consultant like him who is actually making money off this issue is so much more believable). When those in the crowd begin to question him about how much he is making from the campaign and who is donating, he then several times accused Ms. DeJanes of money laundering . . . Will you please expose this? It is absolutely disgusting that a hack like Glorioso would bend that low."

That's both sides of this debate . . .

NOW YOU DECIDE WHO WON!!!

Better than rigged polling, this contest will offer a real indication of who is winning the debate.

Developing . . .

  1. TKC, I think you should be smart enough to know that it's the corporations who always win.

    ReplyDelete
  2. What's happening right now is the city wants to build an over priced train from Union Station to The Plaza but they need the east side's $ to do it (and they know they can't count on the Northland.) Of the nine miles of streetcar that they're proposing, barely three miles are east of Troost, so they threw in the ProspectMAX to sweeten the pot and then criticize streetcar opponents for suggesting the bus is a "good enough" alternative to their train.

Unfortunately, there's no denying that there are obviously some white people west of Troost who don't want the streetcar to go east, but that's not where SMART KC's opposition comes from. It's about the $ firstly, and the unfair election process secondly.

The Prospect MAX is not part of Question A, so we could potentially add that line without funding the streetcar. The streetcar supporters are desperate to stir racial animosity as their gerrymandering efforts look more and more like they're destined for failure.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Now your getting desperate. Your one of the few antis who is actually sincere about wanting to build what you believe is better transit, not just blocking this (and every other), project.

But question A absolutely includes the Prospect Max.

And they don't need "east side money" to build the Main Street line. All the money comes from the Main Street corridor. That's where the sales and property tax bases are, kiddo.

It's also where the jobs are. Ride the main max sometime, it's Half black.

And it's pretty silly to argus that the Main Street corridor is "white". It and independence avenue are the 2 most racially mixed corridors in the city, as it's the one minorities need transit on the most to get to where they want and need to go.

      The facts are simple;

80% of the proposal would be built on the east side, the LARGEST INVESTMENT in the east side in the HISTORY of this city.

80% of the money would come from businesses and residents in the Main Street corridor.

      Delete
    2. Prospect MAX can be built with Amendment 7 money.

If the streetcar only traveled along main street, it would quickly be understood to be "transit for tourists" whereas Portland built streetcars throughout their city and it took a few more years before residents realized how much they preferred the bus.

I never argued that the main street corridor was white, but I've been to meetings and talked to people, even some that live in the downtown tdd, who think a streetcar is going to shuttle crime to their neighborhoods.

To claim 80% of the proposal would be on the east side, you have to include ProspectMAX and start counting streetcar miles east of Main, not east of Troost, and let's be honest, anything the stops short of Van Brunt does little to help the east side.

For that kind of money, we could make much more important investments in KC.

Also, only a few from SMART KC have opposed my transit suggestions. Most have been supportive but the first step in pursuing a Paseo Blvd BRT is defeating the street at expansion. There will be no money left for anything else once that is built. Just because most of the opposition doesn't live and breath public transit doesn't mean they don't have valid or sincere opinions about improving public transit in KC. That's part of the reason the TDD is such a bullshit way to make an investment like this.

  4. Glorioso has pulled a Michael Jackson. His skin has been lightened with white pigment. Otherwise he would be as black as Reverend Dr Tindall, Jermaine Reed, Ablonzo Washington, or that KCPS super. No, Gloriso is just another Negro Grifter dressed as a white man. Uncle Tom scumbag.

  6. Any city or any issue that needs people like Glorioso to speak in their behalf are losers.
Glorioso supports one thing, and that's big paydays for him so he goes from carrying bags of money to Freedom Inc. for one issue, then on to a fiasco like the streetcar.
When the hired guns are out front and the elected airheads who initiated this financial catastrophe are quiet, you'd have to guess the election outcome isn't looking very good for them.
Which means the voters may actually save Sly and the gang from themselves, not to mention the taxpayers.
This whole underhanded mess really makes Sly's endless pronouncements of what a bit-time city KCMO is a bigger joke than ever.
    World class.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think the list of who pays and who doesn't speaks for itself. That large tax abated properties (like Polsinelli) are paying a pittance while while churches and non-profits pay a full load assessment is disgraceful.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Just spending money doesn't make it "an investment".
You really have to be drunk on "transit" Koolaid to think that all that's been lacking along Independence Ave and Linwood is a rail line and once that's been built, everything else will change.
And the financial numbers never worked for the original TDD and the Main Street line. Those boundaries were selected to enable just 375 mail-in ballots to launch the entire city on this multi-hundred million dollar financial catastrophe. The expanded TDD is absolutely vital to paying the bills currently being run up.
And the election's failure will make that very clear.
The general fund is already being bled for this and it's about to get much much worse.
PR fluff can last only so long. Facts and arithmetic are killers.

  17. First of all I could give a shit whether the streetcar TDD goes or not. Having said that, TKC your tipsters are true pieces of work. The person reporting on the Glorioso-DeJanes debate takes issue with Glorioso resorting to "...name calling," right after calling anybody who does business with the city "parasites." Now, that is great top notch, accurate and unbaised reporting, wouldn't you say? What a joke.

  19. As much of a whore as Glorioso is, it's the empty-headed bozos at city hall who have allowed themselves to be stampeded into this fiasco and financial disaster for the entire city by the snake oil being sold all around the country by the urban futurists and associated contractors and salesmen who score big-time every time another city takes the bait. Glorioso is no worse than the rest of the hangers-on down at 12th and Oak who couldn't care less about the health of KCMO or its residents as long as there are endless paydays for them. And as long as KCMO residents elect the same kinds of people, their empty heads will continue to be filled by the endless lines of favor-seekers on the 22nd and 29th floors. Hotels, soccer fields, arts programs, tech support contracts, streetcars...the list is almost endless and pretty much NEVER includes any services that the residents actually want and need. The best little whorehouse in the midwest.

  30. As decades of experience has taught us, as long a you have a bunch of folks accusing each other of being racists you don't advance one centimetre. Anyone who doubts this should take a look at what has happened in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama since the 60's civil rights movement, which I was a part of. When ALL folks of various ethnic groups pick their whiny asses up and get to work positive things happen. Wallowing in shit and waving the race flag around will get you nothing in the new era. So either STFU with the whining and get at it or wallow and whine until you are consumed in it. Anyone who thinks a racist of any kind can stop their progress seriously needs to wake the fuck up and grasp what it was like when a man of color could not even sit down and buy a hamburger in this country.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree that calling people racists doesn't advance us. Especially when the goal for all of us should be to strengthen our city by encouraging residents to move back into the urban core.

That's why making the tough decisions to create solutions for crime and the public schools and create tax credits and other programs for people who will buy and/or repair inner city properties for their primary residence are much more important than 9 miles of streetcar connecting trendy entertainment districts west of Troost.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It has nothing to do with entertainment districts, and everybody knows it.

The Main Street line connects the largest population and the highest concentration of jobs. Period.

It's also a district that almost identically mirrors the white/black ration of the city.

Take a bus sometime, Bry Bry. It's minorities going to work, as much as you guys think it helps yor cause to pretend good transit is for "hipsters" and whites, the fact is: Main Street is the central spine of residents and jobs for the entire city.

Add to that the fact that 4 miles of streetcar would be built on the 2 EAST SIDE routes and only 3.6 on main, and sherry "the voice of the east side" Dejanes' talking point start to not add up, just like the shot she threw out about ADA complaint sidewalks last night.

If you own property anywhere near Linwood and Independence and you don't vote for it you are an idiot. Your property value increase will far exceed any tax increases. It is an IQ test for those property owners. Community leaders in those areas have a vested interest in poverty.

  40. The Catholic Church is losing al credibility. They are willing to oppose a tax strictly as a self serving perspective but yet will not criticize or condemn the actions of the payday loan operating parishioners. Of al the issues both in and out of a church, I highly doubt God will be asking how I voted on streetcar. KCMO priests have compromised the church by avoiding any criticism of liberal policies out of a feared backlash from their liberal parishioners. I think God cares a little more about abortion and molestation than he does about property assessments. So will the church be taking a stance on the other tax initiatives in the ballot or just the ones that are self serving?

  50. All you streetcar proponents yammering about property values increasing for buildings on the streetcars lines are full of s*#t. I own property directly on the downtown route currently under construction and I tried to sell my property. Figured I'd make a killing after listening to you. 54. The Streetcar is not going to raise your property value. It's going to lower it. Property value increases will NOT offset property tax increases for those who want to keep their homes. It's great for those that want to sell and get out. Claiming the streetcar will raise our property values is not a good reason to vote for it. I want to keep my house, and keep feeding my kids. I don't want to have to move if the streetcar comes through.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The approximate amount I will pay for the TDD assessment translates into my house already going up in value by 25% if the TDD passes.
I know that is false property in the TDD will automatically go down as a person will buy in the lowest tax areas which will be out of the TDD.
