New violence reduction approach delivers help

The Kansas City No Violence Alliance, a collaboration of key community and law enforcement leaders, offers a variety of services aimed at helping persons close to violence to remake or improve their lives.

To illustrate this, KC NoVA released today a mid-year report on the number of persons it has helped. More than 160 persons have been assessed by KC NoVA client advocates. They were delivered a variety of services, including literacy training, anger management, mental health treatment, housing assistance, substance abuse and job training.

In addition, client advocates have made more than 1,000 home visits in an effort to reach out to at-risk community members who might be in need of continuing to stay engaged in services that might change their lives.

To highlight these efforts, KC NoVA also released today a new video on the help it offers persons. The video can be found at www.facebook.com/kcnova or watched at http://youtu.be/_i4tePBmakk

KC NoVA is a multi-agency collaboration aimed at reducing violence in Kansas City. It is overseen by a governing board of Mayor Sly James, Police Chief Darryl Forte, U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, FBI Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Michael Kaste, ATF SAC Greg Gant, UMKC Chancellor Leo Morton and Jackie Dunn, Missouri Board of Probation and Parole’s regional administrator.

NoVA is modeled on the practice of “focused deterrence,” which uses police intelligence to identify persons closely associated to violence. Those persons are then told about the help they can receive to remake their lives and about the severe consequences of being connected to a group associated with a homicide or violent act.

Focused deterrence and KC NoVA are about more than offering services to potential offenders. Law enforcement partners pledge to work together to more strongly enforce against any individual and his associates who are connected to a homicide. The enforcement group promises to seek every level of legal action against anyone in a group connected to such violence, from child support and illegal cable hookups to filing murder charges.

  1. Kansas City has become a horrible place, with crime, drugs, violence and all sorts of depraved activities. Niggers are the number one cause of this sad situation.

  2. What about white meth addicts? They are no prize and at least half the problem! Probably more depending on where you live.

Politics is all about controlling the contracts.

Using the plight of the down-trodden to line the pockets of special interest monies.

The governing board aka the usual suspects.

What a load of grifter bullshit!

Worthless, and worse than that it is a monumental waste of money.

Here's a better solution for the money - a big fucking boat to Africa with one-way tickets for all the hoodrats and their illegitimate spawn.

  6. How much money is ALREADY spent on "job search" programs like the Full Employment Council? Millions.
And if anyone thinks that bangers with no skills are going to quit crime and take $8/hour jobs at warehouses in Lenexa, they are kidding themselves.
NoVa is just the latest out-of-town program so a new round of nonprofits can cash in.
If only a small percentage of the gunshot victims this year had died instead of just being wounded, KCMO would have as many murders this year as every other.
Kudos to the ER docs and nurses.
    Everyone else can go home.
