Here's a fun bit of Kansas City political attacking pro sports for Saturday afternoon . . .
A Kansas City Insider tells us:
"At the City Council Business Meeting, Russ Johnson called on David Glass to sell the Royals."
About 01:16:10
Councilman Johnson talking aesthetics and baseball ...
Councilman Russ Johnson Seyz: "The Kauffman Stadium has become the Walmart version of baseball and if anybody thinks its beautiful, count how many advertisements you see. You'll be well into the hundreds before you leave that place That is not my definition of beautiful at all. And David Glass, please sell the team."
Can't really dispute the Council dude on this one. The K is covered in billboards and broken dreams.
More in a bit . . .
Right like anyone takes Johnson seriously at this point?
ReplyDeleteAmen! Sell it to the Cerner guys.
ReplyDeleteCan we kick this guys ass back to Nebraska?
ReplyDeleteJohnson is an embarrassment to the City. He needs to go. We'll be paying for his malfeasance for a long time as it is.
ReplyDeleteHow much longer we have to put with this guy. When does his term run out?
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with Hardcharger on the Kauffman thing... no matter how many times Physioc and Hudler tell me it's "gorgeous," my eyes show me a place that has all the charm of a NASCAR track.
ReplyDeleteThe topper has to be the "old timey" guy that brings out the "W" to hang in the outfield after a win. You think they might invest in a decent looking sign, something that looks s a little authentic maybe? Nope, flimsy vinyl and magnets.
Don't even get me started on the shrill, upspeaking cunt who they for some reason gave a microphone who jackhammers your eardrums with every kind of idiotic "how many marshmallows can you stuff in your mouth" gags and other assorted idiocy between innings.
Like most modern architecture and design... it looks like to me that we aren't even fucking trying anymore.
Fuck you Russ!
ReplyDeleteCitizens of KC are not responsible for feeding mensa boys addiction to spending and wasting taxpayer cash on his hairless brain ideas.
ReplyDeleteAnd David Glass then went forth and trembled.
ReplyDeleteCerner will buy the Royals within five years. Then get a huge tax break for a new downtown stadium.
ReplyDeleteGood and gooder.
DeleteIt would be good to have the royals under local ownership.
ReplyDeleteCERNER is a $50 bubble stock that's struggling to stay afloat. When the market blows it will be worthless.
ReplyDeleteCerner has zero interest in owning the Royals and as a public company, laughably unfeasible.
ReplyDeleteThe Garmin nerd billionaires have no interest in sports, neither do Koch brothers.
If someone buys the Royals it will be to move them out of town.
Patterson wants big spacious parking lots at the new Cerner "campus" so he can better monitor his employees productivity by the fullness of the company parking lot at the hours of 8AM and 5PM.
ReplyDeletePortland Royals?
ReplyDeleteStaples just made #5 Most Shorted Nasdaq 100 Component Replacing Cerner.
ReplyDeleteShorts still love Cerner.
The Kansas City-based health IT monolith’s latest predicament unfolded behind closed doors when Ventura County, California grand jurors found that Cerner knew the county health care agency was incapable of installing the company’s EHR system, which cost $32 million for that implementation.
ReplyDeleteAlso in May, a $31 million Cerner implementation at the Athens Regional Health System in Georgia turned into a fiasco, with reports of botched orders, medication mistakes and patient care problems — triggering the forced departures of CEO and president James Thaw as well as senior vice-president and CIO Gretchen Tegethoff, who has been a great friend of SearchHealthIT over the years and a pillar of leadership for the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
On top of all that, Cerner is still in court-ordered arbitration in Kansas after a small rural hospital system sued the company in U.S. District Court after an attempted 2010 install, claiming Cerner ratcheted up charges and eventually dropped the project, leaving Girard Medical Center with no EHR system. See The Wall Street Journal story about it.
So we are subsidizing this racket here in CK?
If the Gods downtown can't sell Kansas City I doubt anyone wants the Royals.
ReplyDeleteNo one wants KC not even the people who live in it, just a bunch of baby birds with their mouths open hoping mama bird government brings them home a worm! Real people fight for the things they want changed, they get up off their ass and do something to fix the shit they bitch about! I am for sure talking about YOU!!!
