TAXPAYER SUBSIDIZED KANSAS CITY WORLD CUP FAIL CELEBRATION IN MONEY LOSING POWER & LIGHT DISTRICT!!!
The USA World Cup Team advanced with a DISAPPOINTING draw tonight over Portugal.
LA TIMES: U.S. gives up late goal in 2-2 draw with Portugal
A last minute FAIL made all the denizens of this downtown disaster kind of sad . . . So it's kind of like the opposite of the big crowd cheering earlier in the week over some guy kicking a ball.
But more importantly . . .
KANSAS CITY WORLD CUP WATCHING CROWDS SHOULDN'T OVERSHADOW THE FACT THAT THE P&L DISTRICT STILL LOSES MORE THAN $15 MILLION A YEAR FOR KANSAS CITY AND RISING!!!
Yes, big media loves to tout happy crowds of white people cheering a sport they don't really understand . . . But later on KCMO residents are stuck with the bill . . .
Here's a more accurate view of what's really happening in the P&L District . . .
Yes, we've seen big crowds in P&L District before but the tragic deal that Kansas City agreed to assures that all of the celebration over mediocre faux sports STILL doesn't contribute to this town's bottom line. Even worse, Kansas City is doubling down by giving tax breaks to upcoming luxury living space that also has City Hall playing the losing game of tin cup urbanism.
Developing . . .
Don't be a party pooper. Enjoy the overpriced beer!
ReplyDeleteDo hoodrats watch soccer ?
ReplyDeleteBORING
ReplyDeleteTKC should move to Overland Park. I hear it's real nice out there!
ReplyDeleteSo tony, what do you want the city to do? It's not an operating subsidy, but a bond debt payment subsidy. Closing the power and light district would eliminate it but increase it. Your boycott, if totally successful, only increases the subsidy for the debt payment to be paid by the city.
ReplyDeleteI meant "would not" ... I left out a word.
DeleteDon't worry TKC. The flash mobs will destroy it soon enough.
ReplyDeleteFirst plaza.
Now westport.
P&L is on the way.
Sad state of affairs in KCMO.
Correction I meant "would not"
ReplyDeleteTKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! OH GOD I HATE EVERYTHING WITH THE FIRE OF A THOUSAND EXPLODING SUNS!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yet here you are. Smelling the TKC farts. I notice you been here for awhile.
ReplyDeleteThe most intelligent comment here is @8:49PM
ReplyDeleteThis is the type of post that I actually come to this site to read. Specifically, I'm talking about the P&L District financial boondoggle comments.
ReplyDeleteYou can't argue with TKC's facts here, the truth is the truth.
And this is why all residents should be extremely wary of projects like the streetcar, new KCI terminal, etc. Too many city leaders are incompetent, secretive, ego-driven, business cheerleaders who've never seen a building project they wouldn't support. And this at a time when the economy and stock market are back on the ledge last visited in 2000/2007.
Tony, you're such a negative mother fucker. I know that doesn't mean anything to you - me saying that is like shouting at the rain for it to stop. So I guess what I'll have to do is just stop reading your blog. Indifference to your recycled news links, negative rants and so called tipsters - I'll just ignore you.
ReplyDelete10:12 - nobody gives a shit what you do. The point here is that if you live in KCMO you're gonna be paying for something that you never voted for. Wake up now, dry of your panties and stop trying to make everything about sunshine and rainbows.
ReplyDeleteHey now, you two need to kiss and make up!
ReplyDeleteI thought P&L was shut down a couple of years ago...?
ReplyDeletePower and White is still open. There's even a bowling alley there for the Nazis. It's right beside one of those signs that says "don't dress like Black people".
ReplyDelete10:12 don't blame the messenger
ReplyDeleteThe most telling part of this whole interview, was the last sentence or so, where he said "Nobody in Kansas City expects this thing to turn around".... Man, that is it!
ReplyDeleteHey Tony, don't you know that it's not cool with the millennial generation to complain and criticize, no matter how legitimate the reason?
ReplyDeleteThe Upspeak Generation with the Vine video attention span thinks that's a real downer.
Having a segregated place for all those stupid enough to pay $8 for a beer to watch soccer is a good idea. If they promised not to ever go anyplace else to eat or drink the city would be a better place.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the criticism that makes me vomit, it's the lack of ideas and proposals from TKC. For any city to progress, its citizens not only have to bitch about things, they have to get involved. Santiago, Bogota, Portland, Austin, Oslo, all cities with issues but fortunate enough to have ppl who care and want to make things happen. They don't just sit back on the front porch, reading the paper and hoping things would go back to the old days. A lot of millennial are just a bunch of hipster idiots who follow the day's trend, but others do get involved and want a change for the better (and no, I'm not a millennial, I'm actually 40). It's just as easy to criticize them as it is to generalize TKC's readers as a bunch of losers who just want to hop in the car with Marty Mcfly, prefer the status quo where nobody cares about other people.
ReplyDeleteWell spoken 8:59, well spoken.
ReplyDelete8:59 comment, EXCUUUUUUSE MEEEEEEEEE!!!
ReplyDeleteAre you actually criticizing TKC for his lack of involvement, ideas and proposals? What blog are you reading?
TKC is VERY INVOLVED by putting out multiple blog posts each and every day, and informing readers with points of view rarely offered by local media.
Please rethink YOUR negativity and redirect your critical comments to those who merely go along with the status quo on fiscally irresponsible projects like losing $15M per year on the P&L District.
