Fox4 reports Northland Kansas City complaints on their lack of infrastructure for neighborhoods while City Hall remains focused on glamor projects: "Months after a deadly accident put a spotlight on the need for sidewalk in one neighborhood, people are still waiting to see the concrete poured. The city says it knows how much the sidewalks will cost, but isn’t sure how to pay for them.
It was at Northeast Winn and North Bellefontaine where an eight-year old boy was killed, playing in the street back in march. There are still see several memorials there in honor of little Jordan Hale.
FOX 4 immediately heard from people after his death that walk the same street and believe a sidewalk might have save his life. Wednesday night, parents said they fear other kids could be killed or hurt if they don’t get sidewalks soon."

Sidewalks? Sidewalks? We don't need no stinkin' sidewalks! With the streetcar no one will be allowed to to walk anywhere ever again.

Why did they move to a "neighborhood" with no sidewalks? Maybe the should spend their money on infrastructure for pedestrians and good transit instead of building wide unsafe roads and enormous parking lots no one uses in front of every business.

If you want to live somewhere with sidewalks, mor somewhere with sidewalks. The northland is for cars first and people last.
The fact is that they can have sidewalks any time they want. They just have to pay for them like everyone else according to the city charter- sidewalks and curbs are the responsibilty of the property owner.

They should move downtown into a taxpayer subsidized loft, send their kids to a failed school district, sell their car before it gets stolen and get a job in a coffee shop. Then they would have sidewalks for the kiddies.
ReplyDeleteMensa boy's up early this morning, but 7:27 is correct. When we in the poor part of town want new sidewalks or curbs, we have to pay for them. Sometimes the city will put them in, but we have to pay a special assessment when they do.

Norhtlanders don't want sidewalks, so they force Hipsters into the street, were they are easier to hit with SUV's equipped with big hipster bashing bumpers. New GPS has hipster radar on the screen to help locate potential targets. It's the rage in the Northland.

Once again if you want to walk around somewhere goto down to the P&L District where you are paying $15 million for their sidewalks.

It's impossible to say if sidewalks would have made any difference. In this case the little kids were setting down riding a skateboard down the public driveway with no supervision. They had no one to tell them to stay out of the street.
ReplyDeleteIt was an accident that could have only been prevented if only one of the 100's of adults that live there had gotten involved. Now the driver will have nightmares the rest of her life when she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. She had no more control of things than if a dog had ran in front of her.
It was not the lack of sidewalks that caused this tragedy, it was today's society lack of parenting.
Sidewalks and water for the fountains in the "city of Fountains" is supposed to be part of that 1% earnings tax that they spend on everything but the people who actually pay it. I hope people get on board with voting NO on any new taxes until they start spending what they have wisely. NO - I'm not a Republican.

ReplyDeleteSo the city isn't sure how they can pay for the side walks huh? They sure found all kinds of money to REPLACE sidewalks all over down in the hood! Go on a police ride along with any inner city patrol division. There are newely poured sidewalks all over the place down there. I can also guarantee you that people living in $30k broken down houses didn't pay the $1500 or more to have their sidewalk replaced.....all paid by tax payers.
