TKC NOTE: Here's an important consideration of the upcoming Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar vote that does some handy COST ANALYSIS of the pricey boondoggle in the making. Lots more info on this from BOTH sides coming soon. For now, check it:
STOP THE TDD, IT’S JUST MORE TAXES!!!
STREETCAR = THE TAX THAT KEEPS ON TAXING
The Streetcar project being forced on the KCMO voters by our Mayor and "Special Interest Groups”, will create an UNJUST, UNREASONABLE, UNFAIR and UNDUE BURDEN on the poorer neighborhoods of our City. This is a moral issue which need to be carefully considered. It not only will raise the cost of living within the TDD but the entire City.
This is a “TRIPLE TAX” on residents living within the TDD and 1/3 mile of the track.
1.) We will all pay a 1% sales TAX on everything bought in the TDD. This is a TAX on anyone who might shop in the TDD.
2.) Those living within 1/3 mile of the track will be forced to pay an increased PropertyTAX assessment. This includes Churches, Charitable Organizations, etc.
3.) City properties located within the TDD and 1/3 mile of the track will have to additional TAX assessments also. These TAX assessments will be paid with property taxes collected by the City, which the Voters have already paid so all the Voters in KCMO are being taxed to make these payments.
WAIT - THERE’S MORE!
The installation of the tracks is forcing the city to move sewers, gas lines, electrical lines, water lines, phone lines and so on. The utility companies are not doing this for free. Everybody in the city is seeing higher water, gas, sewer, electrical and phone bills. We submit this is another form of STEALTH TAXATION FOR THE STREETCAR!
The City recently borrowed $24million dollars from the WATER DEPARTMENT in addition to $14 million dollars it already borrowed. Then the water department turns around and asks the Voters to give them another $500,000,000 ($500million dollars) on the APRIL 8TH BALLOT IN THE FORM OF A BOND ISSUE. This is in addition to the $500,000,000 ($500 million dollars) we gave them in 2008. The voters approved this bond issue without any audit of Water Department funds. We gave them a blank check! The City also added $71 million dollars to the Power and Light District refinancing plan FOR THE STREETCAR... It just goes on and on. You need a scorecard to keep track.
This week, businesses located in the River Market were asked to vote to extend their CID for 10 (ten) years INCREASING THEIR PROPERTY TAXES 3%! The Morningside Neighborhood Association recently announced they will attempt to form a CID TO RASIE PROPERTY TAXES IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD $125 PER YEAR, PER HOUSEHOLD. Many residents in that neighborhood feel this is an attempt to set up a vote to move the streetcar project South, through Brookside, Waldo and beyond.
Also this week, MDOT was in town selling their $5.4 BILLION TAX INCREASE, YES THAT IS A “BILLION”. $35,000,000 of these funds have been earmarked for the KC Streetcar! We all know our highways and roads need attention but tacking funds for the streetcar on this sales tax increase is a mistake. It mirrors the sneaky, behind the scenes way our city government is working these days.
Finally, last night the city announced Burns and McDonald will be paid $685,734 (taxpayers money?) to hire people to go door to door in the TDD in an attempt to sell the voters on the Eastside of the city to vote for the TDD. This could very well be a futile effort in many ways. It is entirely possible the Linwood and Independence Ave. routes will be SCRAPPED just like Brookside and Waldo. If the East side voters approve the TDD and its tax increases, could the city pull the plug on those routes saying there is not enough potential ridership to make it feasible?

He's got it wrong, it's actually more of a quadruple tax if you count the e-tax too.
ReplyDeletePlus you already pay a transit tax now. That's 4 taxes
ReplyDeleteSo are you saying you want to go to communism, and pay no taxes? Shit even china has rail transit
ReplyDeleteHow many developers, transit planners living in the burbs, rich CEO's (Mensa's fabulous 50) living a safe distance the proposed TDD, and downtown streetcar condo dwellers (paying 1/10th in property taxes what others pay for a less expensive home elsewhere) are paying their fair share?
ReplyDeleteTHEN FUCKING MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU HATE IT SO MUCH, JESUS GODDAMN CHRIST.
ReplyDeleteTake it easy there Mensa. Mr. Road Rage.
ReplyDeleteDid I just hear the crackling of an empty water bottle being crushed?
ReplyDeleteWhy should the streetcar get all the tax money in CK? Maybe that is what you should be asking.
ReplyDeleteQUIET!
ReplyDeleteHow do the 50 people feel about this?
ReplyDeleteIf people vote for this con job, well, they'll get what they deserve not what they expect to put it lightly. Stock up on lube before there is a run on the stores.
ReplyDeleteJar of Vaseline would have been a better pic.
ReplyDeleteA well reasoned opinion indeed! Here is what I suggest the author do with it.
ReplyDeleteCome next election we are gonna unelect the city commission and then we are going to dismantle this train to insure this practice of mayors leaving a legacy for the tax payers to finance stops. Enough of this shit.

ReplyDeleteOh yes. Oh friggin yes. We will show up to vote and overturn the light rail!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Bigfoot sighting on Oak. Oh and Hillary will be coming for your guns.
LMFAO.
Do you all believe yourself?
Shutup Radiogirl
ReplyDeleteYou streetcar people see the writing on the wall. It's just a matter of time until your glamour project goes tits up and you all flee across the river or the state line.
ReplyDeleteThis is a shame and something that needs to stop. We must vote on the whole plan and NOT one piece at a time.
ReplyDeleteIt's not that residents are against taxes. It's what the folks at city hall and the swells who come up with these grandiose ideas and benefit so handsomely from them end up spending the tax money on.
ReplyDeleteWhen neighborhoods are told they have to create CIDs, which means they hve to TAX THEMSELVES again, just of have money for street and sidewalk repair at the same time the etaxes, property tax, and sales tax they already pay to the city are all funneled into grandiose nonsense like the streetcar, residents have every reason to be unhappy and question the priorities of the people "governing" the city.
Not much very good can happen when you're buying expensive wallpaper and furniture instead of making long-overdue repairs on the foundation.
And the paid sellouts "canvassing" east side neighborhoods should be ashamed of themselves almost as much as the Burns and Mac swells and the electeds who continue to blow huge sums trying to cover their butts for some terrible decisions and worse claims they've made to the public.
This kind of irresponsibility drives people OUT of KCMO, while the rest of the residents of the metro look on in disbelief and amusement.
But all the ammo you can !
ReplyDeleteBuy all the ammo you can !
Deletejust calm down and wait 2016 when you can vote to keep the "E" or not.

The "sweet spot" of the posters on this site have lost their relevance. The unrelenting "nebobs of negativity" are so prevalent and consistent, that the few people of influence that read this shit blog have steeled themselves against the piss and moaning and whining.
ReplyDeleteScan these entries that Tony throws out here for comment. Slanted by "tipsters" and unnamed "insiders" they become simple fodder for people that see joy in nothing.
If you want to change something, show up at a meeting and voice your opinion. If that does not work, maybe run for office or support someone you like. Failing that, MOVE.
Reading some of the perverted, hateful, shit that gets posted in response to Tony's bait (or need for attention) will only serve him.
Get a life. Go to a ball game. Watch soccer with your friends. Do something, anything, nice for someone. If you can't find it in your heart to do it for someone of a different race, fine. But don't find joy in putting down, disrespecting, or hating on others. You will only impress other posters who don't have the sack to be honest about their identity.
Back break on Embiid's foot a week before the draft.
Correction...."bad break"
ReplyDeleteIs 5:51 Russ Johnson AKA Mensa boy or one on 20 assistant city managers Pat Klein? I think they share one whole brain between them.
ReplyDeleteSo people are finally beginning to understand they'll be paying 1% on everything they purchase, additional property taxes, and we'll all pay for the construction, relocation of water and sewer lines, etc. plus put up with several years' construction debris, detours, etc. And for what? A fixed rail streetcar that will do everything buses already do better.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder Mensa boy and his band of merry hipsters are getting antsy. Toto's about to pull their curtain back.
Can Sly's toy train and his
ReplyDeletetotalitarianism style of politics
be stopped??

Holy crap, I knew Mini-Me was arrogant, but this is truly unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteOur taxes are too high as it is.
ReplyDeleteThe U.S.Constitution was written precisely for what's happening across the country.
ReplyDeleteI heard it's really a septuple tax because there threw hidden secret mail in taxes on the babies it will kill playing on the trolley trail.
ReplyDeleteAlso boondoggle.
Great cut and post from the tea pot brookside fringe, tony. Way to stay relevant. Enjoy your Facebook campaign of 10 non voters as the occasional low production level you tube propaganda peice.
Should be fun to hear the howling of 15 losers on august 6th.
823 truth
ReplyDeleteTruth has no place here.
ReplyDeleteThis is now just a mouthpiece for show me institute propaganda.
Mensa boy was up late last night. But note he's still one-note and won't say what we get with a streetcar we don't already have with buses. Except higher taxes and decades of construction mess. (10 years to construct and 10 to remove the rails after we discover what our grandparents discovered in the 1950s--that this form of transit is outmoded.)
ReplyDeleteOh, will there be construction? We don't want that? Don't build any new stuff ever, except crappily thrown up mcmansions in nowheresville so we can sit in them and whine on the internet about how we don't get sidewalks and stuff in our former farm field disposable subdivision.
ReplyDeleteWe need the 40 million dollars of sewers where no one lives to handle the run off from our angsty white people tears!
And Mensa boy checks in yet again with pithy remarks that have no relevance...to anything.
ReplyDeletePlease note, Mensa boy, there are no McMansions where this mess is proposed to be built. And the northeast was once upon a time a "former farm field disposable subdivision." (So was Waldo and your beloved Brookside.) For someone who wants to live in the past, you really need to think things through before you mouth off.
hahahahaha. MENSA!!!!
ReplyDeletethats for fags. hahahaha
burn bro. sweet.
ck boondoggle. hahahahahaahahhahahahahaha
Think shit through, faggot. hahahaha. mensatration. lulzers, pussy.
