Groundbreaking for the Toy Train streetcar is tomorrow but right now we've got FIRST LOOK at a bit of propaganda that will comprise Kansas City streetcar cheerleader talking points.
To wit . . .
FIRST ON TKC: CHECK THE KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN STREETCAR DEVELOPMENT GUIDE!!!
Among the many exaggerations, outright lies and fuzzy math. This statement leads the way:
“The streetcar serves as a catalyst for economic development and aims to support a livable, walkable and economically and environmentally sustainable downtown,” according to the report. “Creating a strong physical connection between the streetcar neighborhoods sets the stage for a strong downtown community through supporting existing and new business, improving livability and expanding the cultural environment.”
Like it or not, it's a bold economic theory that's risking BILLIONS worth of Kansas City taxpayer cash.
And we've got the FIRST COPY thanks to TKC TIPSTERS who realize this is the only venue for debate on the topic that is not dominated by City Hall hype machine or so many crooked Council dudes and their consultants.
Developing . . .
Will it buy us a phone?
ReplyDeleteYes!!! More street car blogs that don't mean anything. Get 40 TKC commenters all up in arms.
ReplyDeleteMan is my BULLSHIT METER going crazy.
ReplyDeleteHipsters can't walk two miles? No wonder this country has an obesity epidemic.
ReplyDeleteSecond verse, same as the first ... blah, blah, blah, blah
ReplyDeleteStupid toy train
Conspiracy to defraud the public comes to mind first. Basic everyday racketeering second.
ReplyDeleteSupporters have already conceded that streetcars are not for transit but for economic development. So in order to help overall economic development the area must either take business and population from suburbs outside of KCMO or from out of the metro area. Either way it must overcome the negative effect of increased taxes. While there may be some development along the lines I doubt it will make up for the negative growth outside the lines.
ReplyDeleteA little hint from us down here KC before you get trapped in this scam. Tampa is in financial difficulties. It's been hemorrhaging riders, one reason, The streetcars are slo-o-o-o-w.
ReplyDeleteThe streetcars have not reduced car usage to any great degree.
Most of the Streetcar supporters and other sycophants living downtown get special residential property tax breaks. Like paying one third of what people living outside of downtown pay for a home of the same price. It's almost criminal at the social level.
ReplyDeleteThey are trying to scam taxpayers into paying the bill for their "free ride" in my opinion with this TDD thing.
More bullshit (data) from the Kansas City Mediocrity Authority.
ReplyDeleteYea verily, let us all drink lustily from the vast reservoir of Botello's bitter tears, yet to me they are sweet and delicious and wash away the dust of the day.
ReplyDeleteYea verily.
Yes a few people from the Show Me Institute are the only ones against this universally popular KC street car deal. (Smirk)
ReplyDeleteVoters will toss this piece of hallucinatory marketing crap in the trash can and the TDD along with.
ReplyDeleteThink I'll head downtown today to see the rails. Maybe someone there in charge will say, "go ahead kick the rails".
ReplyDeleteAs much as I really don't like the suburban layout, at this point I think it's preferable to living in the new CK core of hell where your symbolically getting screwed in the ass daily while they steal your money from you in every way imaginable.
ReplyDelete41 News - New trolley tours offered in Kansas City
ReplyDeleteThis is probably the only trolley system here that will actually support itself and not bankrupt the entire city.
And yea verily, Mensa boy (aka 11:22) weighs in with yet another of his incisive posts in which he outlines clearly the advantages to the taxpayers of building a monument to a transportation system that was so efficient and popular that it was abandoned a couple of generations ago.
ReplyDeleteDecades of $10-15 million/ year bond payments in support of a fad that might last 3-5 years max.
ReplyDeleteNot a very intelligent or thoughtful tradeoff.
But just add that to all the underperforming TIFs and the P&L District.
At some point, they can't kick the can down the road any farther.
Don't worry 1:30, the twitter brain trust will pick up the tab. Caleb Is so rich he doesn't even need a car!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy the first phase is already proving the doubters wrong before we even have rail in the ground.
ReplyDeleteCheck out page 10 of the Streecart Investment Guide and the thugs in the pictures!
ReplyDeleteJust what we need, $500 Million spent on a Streetcar scam to bring more drug related eco devo to these
thugs!
