SURPRISE!!! CITY HALL HATES KANSAS CITY PEDESTRIANS TOO!!!

Here's a not-so-surprising sign that local government is all talk when it comes to encouraging pedestrian traffic in Kansas City i.e. that streetcar "walkable district" stuff is really just another justification for engineering and construction contracts.

Check it:

Bike Walk Blog: KCMO Parking and Transportation Commission Recommends Anti-Pedestrian Spending in Downtown

The long-winded and convoluted post rants against automated pedestrian detection which actually puts walkers in the backseat when it comes to street traffic and keeps them waiting while pushing a mostly meaningless "beg button."

The deets are somewhat important for the many d-bags in this town who fancy themselves amateur urban planners. What's more fun . . .

KANSAS CITY BIKE/WALK ADVOCATES ARE NOW STARTING QUESTION THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR BECAUSE IT'S CLEAR THEY'RE NOTHING MORE THAN A PROP!!!

The nickles and dimes thrown to pedestrians and cyclists thanks to the Toy Train aren't making this loud-mouthed crew of activists happy and in the future we can look forward to more fighting as the toy train endangers one cyclist after the next just like it has in other cities.

Developing . . .

  2. No surprise there. Sly and the toy train crew are screwing everyone else with this deal may as well screw the walkers, pedestrians, and bicyclist while they are at it.

  3. They are related!
The Toy Train is a ridiculous scam.
Bikes and WALKING will be faster!

  4. The sad fact is that on most days and at most times, you could safely jaywalk across most downtown KCMO streets with your eyes closed and not have much of a chance of being hit by a vehicle.
Swarming with activities, it is not.

  5. The bikers supported the toy trolley only because the city gives them money. Now some of them finally starting to figure out how dangerous trolley tracks are to bikers.

  6. Arrest all Plaza jaywalkers.

  7. Want to make it difficult for the pedestrian population. You can't make things easy it's just not what they deserve!

  8. No question that BikeWalkKC got double crossed. They originally came out as big supporters of the streetcar. Maybe because of the funding they receive from City Hall and the Downtown Council. When saw the plans the numerous consultants drafted, they now know how unfriendly the trolley mess will be to bikers & walkers.

  9. Anyone who has ever crossed a street in KC knows how dangerous it can already be. KC drivers are entitled. No matter how safe and legal you try to be; often you just have to run for your life. After all, if you counted for anything, you would be driving too. You are on their street and they are important and busy. I can imagine the phone conversation when they tell whoever they are talking to instead of driving about the asshole that just tryed to walk in front of them.

If there is anyone at City Hall that still cares, know that if this passes it is just another ticking straw and the load is getting very heavy. Be warned that we are only a few meetings away from a cleansing not seen since 1940's "Clean Sweep Campaign". It is the little things that are going to bite you in the ass.

This a shame that everything seems to be for the train and no attention is paid to our other transit needs. And yes, biking and walking are viable modes of transit now and moreso in the future.

  11. Every one of the countless little groups in KCMO has their won little issue and very little regard for any thought of the bigger picture.
And, of course, it's really all about money from city hall.
And the elected cowards can never actually tell anyone no or encourage them to work together for some larger purpose, so each group thinks they have a deal....until they don't.
Recommendation: Be sure to be the ones to have the LAST meeting in a council office!
