Kansas City Insiders should know that these are basically the top political lawyers in all of Kansas City. Herb Kohn in particular is responsible for Mayor Kay's reign.
For TKC, what's interesting here is that local lawyers ESPECIALLY TOP LEVEL POWER BROKER ATTORNEYS haven't ever really been involved or taken a role in 3rd District elections.

CIVIC COMMUNITY LEADERS ENDORSE CRISPIN REA FOR CITY COUNCIL
Herb Kohn, David Oliver, and Charles Renner back Rea in Third District At-Large City Council race
Today, three esteemed leaders of Kansas City’s civic community, Herb Kohn, Partner at Bryan Cave, David Oliver, Partner at Berkowitz Oliver, and Charles Renner, Partner at Husch Blackwell, endorsed Crispin Rea for the Third District At-Large City Council race, building more early support for the campaign after Rea announced his candidacy three weeks ago.
“Kansas City’s growth, prosperity, and bright future remain beset by our growing inequality and unceasing violent crime,” said Herb Kohn, a corporate and business attorney. “I proudly endorse Crispin with the confidence of knowing that he will seek out the ideas of our civic leaders and fight for a fairer, safer, and more unified city.”
Mr. Kohn has served several mayoral appointments and on numerous boards, including but not limited to, the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for the Truman Presidential Museum and Library, as Trustee of the Richard and Annette Block Cancer Foundation, and as Chairman of the Blue Ribbon Task Force studying Kansas City’s
“Our dynamic city remains a center of entrepreneurial innovation; yet, we are divided along too many lines and by stark inequality,” said David Oliver, a trial attorney. “I endorse Crispin Rea because of his experience in and commitment to bridging our divisions so all can share in the opportunities and amenities our city can offer.”
Mr. Oliver is a Board Member of the Alliance for Childhood Education, ArtsKC—Regional Arts Council, and the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, to name only a few.
“Crispin understands the need for strategic partnerships and long-term planning for our city’s future,” said Charles Renner, a local real estate, development, and construction attorney. “Crispin has my support and endorsement because he has a proven record of building relationships with our city’s civic community and gaining valuable insight to execute a long-term plan for strategic growth and development.”
Mr. Renner serves on the Citizens Association and the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, is involved with the Mid-American Regional Council, and is the current President of Kansas City Consensus.

11:16 AM Shut up Freedom, Inc. You had your turn. I don't care for Rea either but it looks like he will win his bid for Thrid District At-Large. There are many, many Hispanics in the Third District. They deserve to have someone in leadership that is Hispanic just like the Asians deserve to have somebody Asian on the City Council. Besides, does he have a serious contender... all menacing, hanger-on Black minister's aside? the answer is no. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but looks like he already won this thing. Now, he just needs to avoid the Freedom, Inc. losers and stay clear of Urban Scumbags and he'll be fine.

ReplyDeleteThese lawyers are backing him out of default due to a lack of options this early in the race. When and if a lawyer with real credentials and experience practicing business law enters the race, Crispin will no longer have the support of the bar. Sorry, that's just the way it works. Lawyers prefer other lawyers over inexperienced law students.
I just hope Rea is being up front with these law firms about what the field may shape up to be.....because if he isn't giving "full disclosure" about the potential other candidates, it will seriously damage his reputation in the legal community. That's something that he'd regret long after this race is over.

This beaner needs to get a real job, actually produce something of value and bring new ideas not just use brown skin again to secure yet another tax payer subsidized job on his way to the mayors office.

This guy has never had a real job and his profession is "law student." (he tries to divert people and claim he "works" in the prosecutor's office...he's a freaking intern again!) And glad to know he can make promises to developers...that makes me SO inclined to support him.

Is he in the top 10% of his class? Top 20%? Top half? At such a shitty law school, if he can't make the grade, should we trust him with public funds? Can he add? Crispin, instead of a pat on the head from biglaw monkeys, get a job, then maybe you'll be more than a roving intern.

ReplyDeleteThe great thing about the comments section here is that in campaigns the less mature, less experienced, and less disciplined campaign will unload all their criticisms and put the more mature, more experienced, more disciplined side on notice of what they'll use. The guys who know what they're doing take notes and hope the other side keeps it up. The big mouths who don't know what they're doing won't find the discipline to stop. Keep 'em coming sir.
