Dee Evans is a civic activist and habitual board member in Kansas City. Today she kicked off her campaign for the 3rd District At-Large City Council spot.

Most of her announcement stuff is pretty standard and lists her impressive municipal accomplishments.
However, the "Message from the Committeewoman" contains a tragic racial call to action.
"According to the 2010 Census, there are 43 million African Americans in the United States, 13.7 percent of the total population, the second largest racial minority in the country. Then median age is 32 and 47 percent are under 35 years of age. Although it is predicted by 2050 that the African American population will no longer be a racial minority I wonder if you have given thought as I have about the future of Kansas City’s communities and neighborhoods."
AND SO IT BEGINS . . . DEE EVANS IS FIRST KANSAS CITY CANDIDATE TO ORGANIZE ALONG RACIAL LINES IN THE 3RD DISTRICT CITY COUNCIL CAMPAIGN!!!
She's a favorite and member of Freedom, Inc. but the group is debating about giving her their endorsement this early in the race.
And while this racial gambit makes sense in her district . . . I'm wondering if the campaign managers for Dee Evans realize that she's running a CITYWIDE contest.
Like it or not, this bit of website rhetoric reveals that Dee Evans has already started the racial debate in Kansas City for upcoming Council elections.

Dee is actually a very nice lady. Her campaign handlers should have thought better about their opening message.
