MUST READ!!! BROOKSIDE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR FIGHTERS & KCI SINGLE-TERMINAL OPPOSITION NOW BATTLE AGAINST KANSAS CITY WATER BONDS!!!
Here's an important note regarding growing Kansas City frustration with higher taxes and borrowing.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY ANTI-TAX FRUSTRATION NOW TARGETS QUESTION 1 WATER BOND BORROWING!!!
Here's the statement . . .
FRIENDS OF KCI / DERAIL THE STREETCAR TRIPLE TAX
VOTE NO ON QUESTION #1
We should not be giving the water department any more money until we get a complete accounting AUDIT from the State. Our Mayor has continued to not allow the state to audit our water department. We have no idea where OUR water department funds are going. There is growing suspicion the City is borrowing money from the water department, like they do from the Airport and these funds are being used to finance the Streetcar. We have to believe a large portion of this bond issue will be used on the Streetcar. This is a way to “tax” the entire city for a Streetcar project that affects only a portion of the city and not in a positive way.
Are you seeing your electric bill and gas bill going up in addition to your water bill? Could this be a result of all the work digging up and moving water lines, electrical lines, and gas lines for the Streetcar?? Wake up KC Voters! Tell the MAYOR NO! on question #1. Tuesday, after he received his latest Streetcar set back, the Mayor has called us “CAVEMEN” (Citizens against everything). I am not sure if this is a racial slur or not but we are going to try and keep things on “an adult conversational level”. We would love to support his issues but he has to give us something that is in the best interest of the majority of the KCMO voters. We’re still waiting! The Streetcar Tax is now at least a QUADRUPLE TAX TAX!

As soon as I got the flyer in the mail with Sly's shit eating grin plastered all over I vowed to vote No.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching his bullying behavior towards KCI and the streetcar I will vote no on anything he is in support of.
Holy crap - someone needs to inquire about this. I just heard some quiet rumblings about a longterm plan for a streetcar or light rail going down the center of Ward Parkway? Are you flipping kidding me?
ReplyDeleteI know it's for tourists, but seriously, can we draw the line at not tearing apart major, beautiful and historic boulevards? If this is true, I'd strongly recommend that citizens get ahead of this one and tell city leaders: NO DESTRUCTION OF WARD PARKWAY!
Triple Tax explanation:
ReplyDeleteTax #1. Citizens within the special assessment area, 1/2 or 1/3 mile from the streetcar route, pay extra tax to the TDD.
Tax #2. The City property within the special assessment area pays tax to the TDD. This is revenue that those citizens paid to the city in tax. So these citizens just paid the TDD twice.
Tax # 3. Everyone pays an extra 1% sales tax
Sweet
HURRAH FOR FRIENDS OF KCI/DERAIL THE STREETCAR QUADRUPLE TAX!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your efforts!
It's time to deal Mayor Sly and the Tax & Spend Crowd an overwhelming defeat, a la the Transitional Medical Research Tax vote, to snap them out of their blind arrogance.
now if people will just behind defeating the "E" tax and red light camares than they will have to live whithin there means and quit giving the fire dept. sweet hart bloated
ReplyDeleteover paid contracts.
Sly needs to quit calling it the start car line & start calling the Chastain line.
ReplyDeletethe street car is Slys Obamacare
ReplyDelete2:30 At the rate the streetcar is losing support, it's going to be the nonstarter line.
ReplyDeleteWow 12:54, you must believe everything you hear. The Earth is flat. Post that shit on Facebook!
ReplyDelete12:54 doesn't beleive a word of it. Lies is how he operates. It was tactic #1 in the "grassroots" Brookside opposition of 20 people. T
ReplyDeleteThere never was and never will be a light rail plan for Ward PKWY. The antis just need some money and they're hoping the Warrd PKWY players might chip in if they start a false rumor...just like they did with the "STREETCARS WILL STEAL YOU TROLLEY TRAIL" and "STREETCARS WILL STEAL FROM $$$ FROM BUSES"
And the streetcar isn't losing support, 3:08. Only in your echo chamber of people who were already apposed. 30% is stil 30%, even if its really "vocal" and has a facebook page.
Streetcars are already siphoning transpiration funds away from the KCATA.
DeleteGoogle it, you worthless piece of shit
"Triple tax"???
ReplyDelete"Streetcars are making your gas rates go up"???
Hahahahah.
Jesus, Dan. This is why no one listens to you and you have to shout the same 3 lies and fake "gotcha" questions at every public meeting where adults are having discussions.
What's next, dude?
"Streetcars are making your health insurance go up!!!!!!"
"Streetcars caused Russia to invade Crimea!!!!"
"I heard a rumor they are secretly planning to run a streetcar THRU YOUR GARAGE and make it illegal to OWN A CAR!!!!!!"
All aboard (the coffee crazy train)...
ReplyDeletenot quite sure about all of the numbers for the bonds.
I am wondering if Mayor Sly's admin is blocking a Water Dept audit. Seems the State can and does conduct forensic audits when they see the need.
Besides, how can a loser like Sly James block anything?
I intend to vote against increasing our bond burden. My water bill is all the burden I can take. This current mayor blows way too much of the tax dollars from the people of KC. and he is bereft of new ideas. how damn lame is one if one steals ideas from jerky Chastain?
Ward Parkway used to have a streetcar. They want to put them everywhere else, so why not there? Slap that thing on Ward Parkway, jot it over to State Line at Meadowlake, and ram it straight out South to Stillwell. Prairie Villiage, Leawood and Overland Park workers can get to downtown!
ReplyDelete3/27/14, 4:13 PM now you're cooking with gas!
ReplyDeleteNo audit, no money.
ReplyDeleteScott Wagner for Mayor
4:09: You are now officially seriously in exclamation point deficit. You are wasting exclamation points the way this city wastes taxpayer dollars. Cut it out. Leave some for the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteToo many colons, 6:11.

ReplyDeleteTODAY, at the City Council Meeting, it was stated that the Nextrail.com and the city would be looking at north south corridors and WARD PARKWAY was mentioned.
Were you there? I was.
It doesn't matter where the lines go, as much as the fact that Kanas city doesn't even have the money to instigate this street car. They have spent the money already. Wasted the money yesterday. So, yes, some may want a streetcar but you won't be getting it. People are tired of taxes, taxes, taxes. I want, I want, I want. STOP spending money you don't have, KC. Stop refinancing and extending payments until your grand children graduate from Yale.
ReplyDeleteHey, 3:58, or David Johnson. You must get beyond your frenzy. You are looking rather pathetic. Calm yourself. Think before you spout off. Hey, your shoving people around just doesn't work any longer. You are yesterday.
I don't often vote but when I do, I vote no. Stay pissed off my friends.
ReplyDeleteIf you bother to read the petition that was filed by the City, you soon read the phrase is " streetcar and /or light rail".
ReplyDeleteLight rail has been the ultimate goal right from the start.
I will vote NO on everything the city puts before me until Troy Schulte is FIRED
ReplyDelete7:31 Well put. I agree.
ReplyDeleteI could do light rail. But fuck this streetcar shit.
ReplyDeleteI'm telling everyone to vote No on it but a lot of these tax increases get passed in KC when they go on the ballot, unbelievable.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDelete$500 MILLION dollars for an experiment. Downtown streetcar line is not even built. Won't run till 2015.
If public transportation is the goal here, why are the buses empty?
Getting our share of Federal money is understandable. However, in this instance, with public transportation running empty in so many parts of this city, I wonder why we NEED to tear up our streets, destroy historic areas, take on the huge liability for streetcars, if we
haven't proven that the public wants public transportation AND the public uses it. As poorly as we utilize what we have, there is no way we deserve any additional assistance from the Feds. I am not riding the bus today. I will use my car. Not right, but it's the way it is.
This guy is right. The water department shenanigans need to be explained before we authorize them $500M in water bonds.
ReplyDeleteOur water tastes like shit now, and you know a lot of that money will go to relocating water lines along the streetcar line and it WON'T be calculated into the $514.9M and ever growing streetcar total.
Buses aren't empty. Most of these bus lines are full right now especially at peak times and transit use is up 10% in the city. Time to join the ranks of every other large and most midsizes cities and build rail transit in the core. All for less than the price of 1 unnecessary highway interchange in joco.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you'd know that if you took public transit instead of just pretending to be a big bus proponent all the sudden when you want to subvert a democratic vote by the people who actually live here.
ReplyDeleteThis theory that rail moves more people faster and more efficiently is only valid if it has dedicated infrastructure, and only if the sidewalks and bicycle routes are where they need to be.
ReplyDeleteMere ridership numbers do not indicate the need for rail; they indicate the need for more frequent buses.
It depends on where you catch the bus. I catch it at 75th St., and it's not empty, but it's far from full. By the time we get to 39th St., it's frequently standing room only.
