That school is literally missing walls on the top level and would take millions to renovate.
ReplyDeleteThe people who want to "save" the building don't know or care where the money comes from. They just know it would make great office space for neighborhood groups and some community activists.
ReplyDeleteSorta like Union Station and the Chamber of Commerce.
8:08; you are correct, but if it's private $, why do you care? Can you put a price on the oldest standing structure on Independence Avenue?
DeleteThe only place "missing walls" is the extension that was built in 1914, which most agree will have to be demo'd even if we find a buyer.
Fuck it knock the POS into the ground.
ReplyDeleteWho in their right mind is going to invest millions for a rundown building on Independece Ave? Bunch of broke dreamers

ReplyDeleteI can actually put a price on the oldest standing structure on Independence Avenue.
My research indicated that the former oldest standing structure on Independence Avenue was worth very little. Thus Thatcher is worth very little. They are just buildings. They are not monuments. Get a good look at them now, because when the district is dissolved they will all be coming down.
If it's private funds then by all means, knock themselves out. But why would a private person or organization invest in a public property? Especially one that would be run by such a fine organization like the KCPS? I get people don't like to see their old school closed but because it's the oldest building on the Avenue? So what. The only people who improve the area are gay men who renovate homes by the KC Museum. And they only live there because they don't have kids they have to send to the shitty KCSD. Pretty much everybody else there is adding to the decay of the neighborhood.
ReplyDeletebut dis nigga be needin ma edumakashun!!!

ReplyDeleteI have a great idea.. Why don't the the group who is trying to save it pool their money together and buy it. Forgot they are broke and want others to invest their money in a losing proposition.. These dreamers need to get a grip on reality. I like the school also, but not going to invest my hard earned money in something that would be a bad investment.
6:37; The school has been closed since 2009.
ReplyDeleteNo one is trying to save the school; they're trying to save/repurpose the building.
I'm not sure why some people would spend $4M to save history, but I'm also not sure why people like soccer, and yet Sporting KC continues to attract more fans...
It's cute that you have an opinion, though.
