NEWSFLASH!!! 18TH & VINE STAYS LOSING!!!

A couple of Dead Tree Media stories are news to absolutely no one in Kansas City paying attention . . .

A new heritage of frustrations for KC's historic jazz district

Jazz museum has a history of disappointment, but optimism survives

The over/under here is really easy to follow . . .

- 18th And Vine is still nowhere close to turning a profit or delivering on millions of local subsidy.

- The Party District faces more challenges and host a tragic shooting this week.

- Cheerleaders for the district persist but are unable to answer questions about throwing good money after bad.

In fairness . . . The District still hasn't lost as much money as the P&L District and the current $14 Million shortfall for 2013 as we learn again and again that City Hall mostly LOSES when attempting to play developer.

  5. Ollie Gates says "this is a good area. You have to keep putting something there until it catches on"

Well folks, that "something" he refers to is tax dollars. And "until it catches on" that means open the money spigots and keep it coming. STOP THE BLEEDING WITH TAX DOLLARS, fix the infrastructure!!!

Ollie should have been a career politician rather than a bbq'er, because his solution to keep on pumping tax dollars into something until it works is exactly what our politicians are doing and we have 17 TRILLION dollars of debt.

And it is not a good area, people are hesitant to go there. That's the reality.

  6. imagine how much better kansas city would be if Emanuel cleaver want around. how much was grafted, embezzled, wasted on this project and the green impact zone

  7. Lay the blame for this mess at the feet of the one who is to blame for the waste, the hundreds of millions of wasted subsidies, the plastic sax purchase, and everything else...Rev Emanuel Cleaver.
I'm surprised there's not a car wash down by the statue of Parker's head, which was another waste of money.

  8. Cleaver is "frustrated" only because he hasn't been able to skim tens of thousands of dollars off of this turd anymore. He now wishes he would of stole more than he did. Everybody predicted this. NOTHING on Earth succeeds that is ran by black people. There is no reason to go this far East to this shithole, there is nothing there. Maybe the occasional trip to Bryants. Look at the area. Drive directly East of South of the area and see how shitty it is, thus the chance of being the victim of a crime. You really want a tourist getting lost in this area? So they can get carjacked or shot. All the black power players did was extort money out of white people under the threat of being called "racists" by Cleaver and his con-men. Nobody with money is going to want to live in this area to help improve it. Anybody who wants an urban environment to live in will live somewhere else. Where are you going to walk here to do something? Nowhere. They should turn this place into a museum for what happens when you have black people running things. Move the KC school board there and the sec. 8 housing on Armour at Troost and it will be the perfect monument to black inefficiency. At least when white people fuck something up it's with private funds. OK, I'll grant you the Wall Street bastards but I think they shoot be shot too.

  9. Kansas City is where people come for IHOP prayers and Neo Nazi Rallies. They just don't think about Kansas City as being a music town anymore.

  11. Like Citadel Plaza, MLK Village, the Green Impact Zone, and on and on, 18th and Vine is nothing but a trough of public money that a handful of insiders and grifters tap into and expect to have refilled over and over again.
The people "running" these operations have no experience or ability managing much of anything, which is demonstrated by the terrible service and even hours of operation of places like the Black Archives.
There's very little to see and even less to do, and the vast majority of metro residents wouldn't venture down that way at night on a bet.
And, like downtown KCMO, all the demograghic and socioeconomic factors that made the place successful in the 1940-50s are long gone and are not coming back.
And pumping the public's oxygen into a corpse is really expensive and gets awfully old year after year.

  16. The economic development folks will never learn that developments mostly happen, they cannot be planned. But then if they admitted such they wouldn't have a job.

    Panned developments - 18 & Vine, P & L District, Citadel

    Unplanned - 39th Street, Crossroads, Westport, 31st & Gilham,
