TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! DEAD TREE MEDIA DECLINE AND DECISION: KANSAS CITY STAR AXES REPORTER KAREN DILLON!!!

It doesn't take a (chicken) genius (like TKC) to know that we're in the last days of Dead Tree Media as the daily newspaper goes the way of the dodo.

Sadly, the politics of it all get jumbled and it's important not to get too obsessed with the minutia.

THE BIG PICTURE IS THAT KANSAS CITY DEAD TREE MEDIA IN ITS LAST DAYS JUST GAVE TOP REPORTER KAREN DILLON THE AX ACCORDING TO KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS!!!

Staff memo accusatory gossip only matters to the geezers who don't get all their news/propaganda/hype from Twitter like everybody else.

To be fair . . . We've heard nothing but good things about Karen Dillon and KC Insiders remarked that she's a "Damn good reporter" and probably doesn't deserve this layoff when so much dead wood clings on to the KC Star . . . Yes, we're looking at you Yael.

Remember you read the FIRST firing notice of this most recent round of layoffs here on TKC courtesy of KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS who are navigating the digital world. Natch.

We'll have more for the morning update when Dead Tree Media Newsies who can't sleep very well check this blog so they can write their own version of history after the fact . . .

  1. a damn shame. She really was a great reporter. Star's loss. Hope she lands on her feet somewhere else and scoops them.

  4. Great comment about Yael TKC! Fantastic! In my mind it's that mess of an editorial staff that seems to be the problem at the Star. They only seem to cover personal agendas rather than what the readers want.

  5. Thank god they kept the female Woodward & Bernstien that is Jenee. What would the city do without her hard-hitting journalism. Jeez, just put the poor thing out of its misery and turn it into a parking garage. I used to love the paper but it's past ridiculous now. Place is full of people who don't deserve their job but are fulfilling HR quotas. Kind of like the KCMO school district.

  6. Hoopz should try out for the Survivor TV series with luck like this............

  7. Does she have to put on tons of weight now like the formerly attractive DeAnn Smith did?

  8. Anything positive Jim?

    I mean, anything about anything?

  10. Dillon is one of two reporters that were told to figure out which one of them would be canned on the last go around. Dawn Bormann was the other one. Bormann won and Dillon was forced to put up with that hell hole for another year. What will be interesting is seeing if they can any of their affirmative action babies in editorial.

  11. The star was one a great paper. They can be again when they ditch the editorial dead weight and focus on reporting. Looking forward to that day.

  12. Remember folks, the last 2 out the door are Lewis DoBad and Jenee Osterizer.

  13. I used to say good things about Karen's work in the comments section of te star back when that was a thing. Civil forfeiture was recently covered in the new Yorker by one of their top investigative journalists. I hope u stick to this one tony, this shit got me pissed. Her reporting will be missed in kc, thank based god for the Internet.

  14. Glad I cancelled my subscription some time ago. Probably waited too long.

  15. There are lots of us Kansas Citians, just waiting for the day they decide to get rid of that useless, no talent, Yael. He seems to be the biggest albatross the Star has just now..

  16. Maybe the Daisy rape homer hit by the new reporter will open the publishers' eyes as to what the Star could be without the current crop of deadweight editors and the affirmative action quota kids writing columns.

  17. The Star could die today, but their Big Green building would live on.

It's all about regional distribution. They're printing just about every newspaper with at least a 10,000 copy circulation within 100 miles and they just picked up the Lawrence Journal World.

    They also print

    The Wall Street Journal
    Topeka Capital Journal
    Olathe Daily News
    Cass County Democrat
and most of the Spanish language rags around town that you can find in most Price Chopper's or any store in a Latino-Centric area around town like, Mi Raza

    And that's the short list.

Fyi, the Star is the biggest circulation newspaper in the Midwest and companies pay big money to utilize their printing, inserting and distribution network.

While I do agree that there's not much content in the daily Star, it makes a helluva lot of money and if it wasn't for the Star, it's parent company, McClatchy Media, probably would of went under 5 years ago.

Subscribe to The Wall Street Journal. It's a much better read with a shitload of content other than financial. I read it almost every day, with the Friday and Saturday/Sunday edition's being the best read.

  18. DeAnn used to have great tits.

  19. Unfortunately, since the Star has pretty much axed all the white guys it is time for the white women to go.

  20. DeAnn Smith is a TOTAL dipshit. Her monitering of the website at KCTV are her "power panties" evidently. She's another bleedin heart who loves them niggers and all the action they bring. She won't even think of letting the truth out...because,even them thar "power panties" can't handle the truth. Another overpaid nobody.

  21. What did DeAnn do to deserve this bullshit? She is a very nice lady.

  22. 9:14 you don't know what you are talking about.
