Academics throughout Kansas unite in order to defend a dumb tweet and preserve free speech and intellectual discourse in the digital and social media epoch.
"More than 100 current and former University of Kansas faculty and staff are publicly affirming the free-speech rights of professor David Guth whose Twitter post against the National Rifle Association sparked a political firestorm."
Thinking . . .
YOU MEAN THIS WHOLE TIME TKC COULD HAVE BEEN MAKING DEATH THREATS TO KANSAS CITY POLITICOS INSTEAD OF JUST BLOGGING THE LATEST BREAKING POLITICAL GOSSIP AND LAMENTING MISPLACED LOCAL PRIORITIES?!?!
Resolved . . .
I'VE GOTTA STEP UP MY GAME AND ATTACKS AGAINST THE COWTOWN RULING CLASS!!!
Sadly, this blog doesn't wish harm to anybody and is really a celebration of life . . . Which sorta explains the hottie cleavage pix and our dedication to Jordan Carver.

Anyhoo . . . It's good to know that a great deal of study and thought have gone into defending a dumb tweet as a liberal arts education once again proves its value. Check it:
- SF Gate: Kan. academics worry over reaction to prof's tweet
- KMBZ: Show of support for controversial KU profssor
- Las Vegas Sun: Professors chide KU for sanctions over tweet
- Sun Times: Kansas academics worry over reaction to prof’s tweet
- LJ World: More than 100 active, retired faculty, staff support Guth’s “right of free speech”
Paula Deen is thrilled.
ReplyDeleteWhen will the Supreme Court rule that killing someone is a protected form of "free speech"?
ReplyDelete"But, pee pee, I was just making a statement."
We the tax payers are paying this clown. He made a threat and if it was a non-liberal it would have been blown up on msm and that person would have lost everything. This guy should not be allowed to suck the teet of the university any longer. Fire the clown and tell him good luck in the real world.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to learn the difference between a "death threat" and a statement expressing a desire that others might experience the results of their actions.
ReplyDeleteI'm not necessarily in favor of gun laws, but I think First Amendment rights are at least as important and defensible as Second Amendment rights.
Just because you have the right to say something doesn't mean you should.
ReplyDelete8:09, remember your own advice before commenting, okay? Sorry the bill of rights is so annoying to you. Have you ever thought of a move to North Korea? They don't have free speech problem there.
ReplyDeleteFaggots and nigger lovers no doubt.
ReplyDeleteThe first amendment doesn't say you can't be fired for saying something stupid, just that you can't be prosecuted. Was the rodeo clown at the state fair entitled to free speech? It didn't work out too well for him when he said something stupid.
ReplyDeleteOne should remember that freedom of speech does not come with the freedom of responsibility. One can say what one wants, but should not be surprised when there are consequences.
ReplyDeleteYou have the right to embarrass your employer, but it would be silly to expect that your employer would not discipline or fire you for doing so.
He should have reviewed the social media policy at Kansas University before he tweeted.
ReplyDeleteHang him by his nads if he has any. Fugly, stupid SOB.
ReplyDeleteWhy does this grossly overweight, unsightly, asshole even have a job? Who the hell would have ever hired this clown to begin with?? Loser deluxe!
ReplyDelete8:45: Yes. The clown was entitled to free speech (as was Paula Deen) and should not have been fired. Just because some employers are assholes does not mean every employer has to be one.
ReplyDeleteHe hasn't been fired. But how hypocritical that the academic community thinks that an appropriate consequence for expressing ones beliefs about the 2nd amendment is killing their children, while the tubby bastard who wants to silence them and deprive them of their first (and second) amendment rights should have no consequences.
ReplyDeleteSo this is and example of the contribution scholars and PHDs are expected to make after all those years in day care? No one should get a P.H,D. without clearly demonstrating that they can work in the real world, survive in the real world and work & play well with others in the real world.
ReplyDeleteWho cares what a bunch of leftist academics think. De-fund the university if it can't make the professorate do what they've been hired to do and stop wasting class time with pontifications.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Gary, who said he tweeted on class time? Second, oh brother. Have you ever been to college? I had a geography class back in the days. The professor used it to spew right-wing propaganda, and I got in trouble for studying for another class while he was pushing the John Birch Society line.
ReplyDeleteWhen you have a university which honors murders and common thieves with their mascot/nickname, what do you expect?
ReplyDeleteWith rights come responsibilities. A fact ignored by most folks.
Has this teacher of communications ever held a job in the public sector, written a book, a short story or magazine article?
Most of those who teach journalism and communications have been employed as teachers and have no real world experience in the subjects they teach.
"Those who "can", do. Those who can't, teach."
ReplyDeleteYeah, send your kids to KU and let a fucker like this one teach them so they can get an useless degree and a student loan debt the size of a mortgage so they can live in your basement forever. Journalism is one of the worst majors a kid can get.
ReplyDeleteJournalism used to be an honorable profession and KU had a good reputation. I'm a KU J-School grad. I'm also a donor. I will cease my donations if this idiot Guth is allowed to return to a classroom. His tweet showed a lack of restraint and good judgment. Both need to be taught to students. This jerk can't teach what he obviously doesn't understand.
ReplyDeleteHe is an albino Biz Markie
ReplyDeleteHe is a slovenly pig, teaching because he can't can't get any other job except maybe as a food taster at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Fire his fat ass.
