TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! AN OPEN LETTER TO MAYOR SLY JAMES REGARDING TRAGIC KANSAS CITY TOW TRUCK COMPLAINTS!!!

Working on a few other things are are going to be worthwhile, but right now we wanted to highlight this bit of Kansas City testimony . . .

To wit . . .

READ THIS SHOCKING OPEN LETTER TO KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES COMPLAINING OF THE CITY'S TOWING STRATEGY!!!

The missive is written from the perspective of the working poor and highlights challenges posed by tow truck operators and city regs faced by people simply struggling to survive . . .

A letter to mayor sly from a Kansas City Activist and Widower,

Dear Mr. James- do you realize that your police force now tows cars for as little an offense as expired tags? From in front of my house, while I tried to argue. $200 to get it out. What do poor people do? That's almost half a week's pay. What about others less fortunate? I find this a pretty disgusting use of power and a blatant revenue grab. This was not an abandoned vehicle. It's a very well cared for Saab convertible. Not an expensive car, but not an eyesore by any stretch. Don't they have anything better to do? Is this really what our police force is for? How is that protecting and serving? My wife died last month and so, yes, I overlooked renewing my tags. I sort of had bigger things on my plate. My fault. How about they write me a ticket?

Pretty disgusted voting citizen, once again let down by the public servants that are supposed to be on OUR side.

We've removed the name and now we turn it over to you . . . Does this guy have a legitimate gripe? Will the toy train streetcar solve this problem? You decide!!!

More in a bit . . .

  2. Whatever happened to using common fucking sense? Are all governmental employees now bureaucrats, with no intelligence at all?? What the fuck happened??

  3. What I question is if the car wasn't moving and if he wasn't seen driving it, then why did the cop stop at all to run a check or bother to write a ticket.

I am sorry but I have to think there is a lot more to this story than what we are seeing here.

  5. First, Sly sucks and so does all of the 29th Floor.

However, secondly, you want tow truck drivers negotiating registration requirements with auto owners? What guidelines does he or she use to give someone a break? That's just not how rules work. If you were parked in a metered space without putting money in, you would have gotten a ticket as well.

It our expectation that government will consider our special circumstances, then complain that they can't effectively administer rules, that is getting the shit hole.

We are not France. Sorry about your loss, but if you want to own and operate a vehicle, you got to get it tagged, or everyone else who has a good and legitimate story has a right to say "me to".

  6. Tony is getting lame. This blog is filled with stupid half truth matters with the sole purpose to generate complaining and get "hits"

  7. Helping to destroy people's credit ratings is one of the most important services city officials and cops can do to assist their bosses, the megarich

  8. And every black guy I see driving his ghetto cruiser has 5 year old temp tags or none at all on his 82 Caprice Classic he thinks is sweet.

  9. Policing has become a profession for mindless glorified meeter maid chicken shits. Fucking loosers.

  10. I had a codes guy wanting to write up my expired tag car for sitting in my drive with the expired tags. He also wanted to write up the historical vehicle tags on my classic. Just a big money grab.

  11. Had an experience like this. I ripped up the ticket, never payed it. Nothing ever came of it
That was over six year ago.

The government (city this time) is oftentimes in the "business" of separating citizens from their money. This is how they exist and flourish.
This person's mistake was to leave it parked on a public street, as opposed to private property. Thus the city confiscates your property and holds it hostage for cash.
This is, unfortunately, just one of the many methods the city employs. Review the recent proliferation of red-light cameras.
Advice going forward: try to keep a low profile and don't allow yourself to get into a situation where the city can rape you.

  14. if you don't want your car towed then renew your tags like a normal citizen. The rules are for everyone.

  15. A non gay man with a Saab? That probably offended someone at the city.

  16. he should talk to his neighbors. They're the ones who called in the illegally parked vehicle putting it on the pco's radar. made the neighbors happy to see the saab gone

  17. KC does have parking enforcement. I got a ticket for expired tag 3 days after they expired in front of my apartment and they did it sometime in the morning before 9am when I went out to my car.

So, no one reported his car to the police. KC does in fact enforce things that make them money.

  18. my boyfriend works for a tow company in Kansas City Kansas. and there is a cop that drives around looking for expired tags. and it will cost you $200 to get it out. it might be a dirty thing on their part but its not against the law so I say keep your tags up to date.
