SHOCK!!! KANSAS CITY SPENDS PUBLIC SAFETY SALES TAX ON OTHER STUFF!!!

You d-bags have been complaining about this one for more than a year . . . And now it's in the newspaper:

Questions are raised about Kansas City tax allocations

Money line before the paywall kicks in . . .

"After voters approved a quarter-cent public safety sales tax in 2002, all of the money generated the first few years went to public safety projects. But in recent years, KC officials have found two ways to divert millions of dollars to the city's general fund. One of the practices -- keeping about $1.3 million annually in interest generated by the tax -- might violate state law. The other practice -- diverting revenue from a merchant-paid tax tied to the sales tax -- appears to be legal. But some civic leaders question whether it is appropriate for the city to take the money, $8 million so far."

Let's not forget that last night we were just talking about City Hall looting the airport as well.

The lesson . . . Kansas City is desperate for money thanks to so many old and busted eco-devo deals and new pet projects on the table. Sadly, locals have given in to charm and charisma and have yet to say no to new tax increases that will be wasted on the P&L District, the Toy Train, the new Downtown hotel or giveways to whoever else lucky enough to get a hold of some happy-fun-time sexting photos.

  1. John Altevogt's comment rings more and more true every time I read about a new City Hall initiative.

"If you build it, they will steal from it."

  3. Most of these dedicated taxes have a way of being spent for other things regardless of how many "citizen oversight" committees there are.

You forgot how the police departments steal money from drug confiscations meant for education.

Laundering the money through the DEA so they can buy SWAT-stuff and dine at the Capitol Grill.

  6. once again the mayor and city council wasting taxpayers money. Maybe the state needs to audit the 26th floor of city hall
