KCNOVA Commemorates More Than 1000 Kansas City Homicides With Saturday Rally

Local government anti-crime groups in Kansas City are competing for attention while the murder count remains basically unchanged over the past 5 years.

And interesting stat:

From The NOVA FB page:

"We have a total now for the last 10 years of homicides in KC. It is more than 1,000, of course. Final count through the most recent this year: 1,146."

And now . . .

GIVEN THAT JACKSON COUNTY'S COMBAT PROGRAM HAS BEEN BUSY . . . KC NOVA HAS NOW PLANNED YET ANOTHER ANTI-CRIME RALLY THIS WEEK TO GARNER A BIT OF THE KANSAS CITY CRIME FIGHTING SPOTLIGHT!!!

And while these feel-good rallies are nice, just like so many anti-violence programs in Kansas City . . . Their effectiveness is suspect and hasn't been demonstrated.

  4. Anyone looking to turn a quick buck may want to put up a stand selling candles, balloons and stuffed animals at the rally.

  5. Yes avoiding the issue that instead of hiring or expecting thugs and preachers to clean up the mess they need to get some REAL leaders. Wait - do any exist in KC?

While people are at this rally would be a good time to rob houses.

  8. They should have a barking salesperson at these vigils like the ones at a ballgame selling beer or peanuts barking: Candles get your candles. 4 candles for a dollar. Get your teddy bears, 1 for $5 2 for $8. Special today: a vigil kit: 4 candles, 1 yellow ribbon, 1 teddy bear, a pack of hankies and a bottle of water. Someone could form a company called Vigils R US or for the inner city, WE B VIGILS & SHIT.

  9. 4:02 - Let's do it. We can buy an old army tank and do business from there over a loud speaker. I really like your "vigil kit" idea. We will, of course, need to be able to accept the EBT card.
