Kansas City Hipster Bike Collective Clip

Rolling with Kanasas City do-gooders this evening . . .

Help The 816 Bicycle Collective Overhaul The New Hub

Here's the mission statement for the ask that's very well-meaning but totally overestimates cyclist transit needs:

"We are a collective of individuals from diverse backgrounds working on a volunteer basis to rescue, repair and redistribute bicycles. We play a vital role for low income commuters in the Kansas City area, though we serve absolutely anyone who is open to the freedom that comes with learning how to fix your own bicycle, embraces our DIY recycled-bike model or cannot afford for-profit bike shop prices. We believe in empowerment through education and support the use of bicycles as a healthy and ecological means of transportation."

Again, this is a nice effort for hipster cyclist who enjoy venturing across Troost in order offer bike transit to a diverse community who, for the most part, doesn't want it.

  3. If you don't have a car you need a bike.

  4. You mean not enough stolen bikes laying around east of Troost for the porch apes?

  5. As an organization the 816, over the last five years has never "estimated" the need of any cyclist. They serve, unpaid mind you, a population that cannot afford to use the bus, a population who do not consider themselves cyclists or only know the term hipster to recall an era their parents knew.

The only reason why you have not heard about the collective sooner is because the importance of this shop is connecting people to transportation, to work, to school before it is asking for help to run programming.

I know it is pointless to try and make any meaningful post in the comments but your assumptions, Tony, are not offensive to the organization but to the 900 people they have helped take matters into their own hands...

  6. You clearly don't know anything about the people who rely on that shop.

  7. I'd rather have a car.

Tony wouldn't know, since he doesn't often venture off his fat pompis to even waddle down to the Boulevard to eat burritos.

Even you should be in support of this one, Tony. More beautifully toned women riding bikes means less fat asses in SUV's!

  14. Comes with a free Wilco CD? Are you serious? Nice up-to-date reference there. Trying to be a funny version of yourself circa 1995 is more like it. Suck a tailpipe!

  15. Hey Tony, ever notice how people who ride have great asses? Because I guarantee your wife has.

    ReplyDelete
  16. WIFE? BWAHAHAHAHA!

    Thanks... I needed a laugh!

  17. Tony, I would like to say that you are a mystery wrapped inside a conundrum, but that would give too much credibility to your obscure notion of what a community is and does. How could you possibly pan an organization/endeavor like this (that you clearly know NOTHING about) when your option was to ignore it and continue down your narrow way? What do you stand to gain from being such a cynical and poorly informed smartass, and what does the community stand to lose?

  18. People who volunteer in the community are easy to make fun of. Whose next, Meals on Wheels?

    Check your privilege.

  19. Not needed. Everyone can ride trolley for free.

This post just gave me brain cancer.
