50K Worth Of Jackson County Health Research Tax Push Back

Newspaper campaign finance transcribing: Jaco med tax opposition committee now up to $50,000 "Brad Bradshaw of Springfield — a physician and a lawyer according to his campaign filing — has donated another $17,000 to his committee opposing the half-cent Jackson County health research tax on the November ballot."

Note . . . This effort might be more significant than the old school newsie local blogger who took $500 bucks to ask his friends for donations. Still, it's outgunned 2/1 in terms of fundraising AND this town loves passing news taxes.

Meanwhile: Civic Council chips in $100,000 for campaign to promote Jackson County research tax

Research Hospital is a for-profit business. They have been sued for violating their legal obligation to continue the hospital's charitable foundation.

Along with St Lukes, they are now billing patients of accidents directly and refusing to submit the bills to the patients' insurance companies. All quite legal of course.

That alone should defeat this tax.

Why the Star opposes this tax is baffling after all the other crap they have endorsed, P&L District, Toy Train, 1000-room hotel. It fits their agenda quite well.

  2. $800 Million, with no guarantee of results, no likely benefits for Jackson Co. residents, and for a handful of "researchers" who will probably all live in JOCO? No thanks. Good luck to you, Mr. Bradshaw.

$800 Million has to be some kind of record, right? That's crazy, even for Jackson Co.

  3. This is about the stupidest money scam I have ever heard of. Surely voters won't approve it.

  6. 12:25, accident victims get billed for care because the insurance companies will not reimburse doctors or hospitals for expenses related to an accident. The patients are paid directly, and then the patients don't pay the doctors and hospitals. The only way doctors and hospitals will get paid is to get payment from the patient up front.

  7. Horse shit, you fucking idiot at 7:31. That's what liens are for, and these hospitals place their liens on any insurance proceeds.

    Regardless; NO NEW TAXES!

  8. Attorneys get to eat FIRST from any insurance proceeds. Just to be clear.

7:31, you are mistaken. Research and St Lukes refuse to submit the bills to the victims insurance company. While that may be legal it is unethical.

Those hospitals have contracted with the various companies for negotiated rates. The hospitals are just going for a money grab.

    You must work for Humana.

    8:44 schooled you too.

  10. 11:10, sorry, but you are dead wrong. And so is 8:44.

    But no new tax!

  11. Bernadette looks every bit the token blackie in this crowd of white male "civic leaders". We are in amazing hands folks, amazing hands.

  12. The way the Kansas City treats our tax money and the way TIFF treats and tax exemptions are handed out I wouldn't trust any of these politicians or "civic leaders". They're out to line their pockets with our money.
