5. Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Circo
It's not that "Sexy Cindy" is so threatening all on her own . . . It's more about what she represents - The Kansas City New Wave "Girl Power" Cronyism. Our Mayor Pro Tem has basically given up on her district in favor of playing the Midtown Kansas City social scene among local power brokers and the corporate elite. Like it or not, Cindy Circo represents Kansas City's "politics by way of social clique" that has rarely produced a decent candidate with any discernible philosophy on local governance.
4. KCPD Local Political Control
Remember that things can always get worse in this wicked little town. Kansas City politicos have destroyed schools, housing and the Water Dept., and now the push to take over the po-po should scare just about anybody who ever wondered what happened to that MISSING $15K from City Hall.
3. Low Voter Turnout
The last election only garnered the interest of around 10% of all registered voters. This pathetic turnout and virtually no anti-tax opposition in Kansas City have made it possible for Mayor Sly to increase fees & taxes nearly 5 times that I can name off the top of my head including a "Forever Tax" for the dying cancer polar bear at the Zoo.
2. The New Single-Terminal KCI Airport
Biz poaching and yet another misguided economic development scheme highlight a project that's supposed to act as an economic engine for Platte County despite the fact the older, nicer airport didn't really create a boom for all of the glorified farmland that currently surrounds the convenient location.
1. The Kansas City Downtown Toy Train Streetcar
Currently challenged by a lawsuit, the Downtown Streetcar vote to establish Mayor Sly's favorite pet project was described as "the single-most undemocratic election in Kansas City since the Pendergast era" by KC Library honcho Crosby Kemper III. The cutting toy train criticism offers an important perspective and thankfully Staubio and his gang of streetcar cheerleaders haven't decided to boycott the Library as retribution.
The Toy Train is a threat to Kansas City because it has been predicated on voter deception, gerrymandering and empty promises.
$100 Million for a 2.1 mi trip just doesn't add up and shows us that Mayor Sly and City Council are willing to sacrifice Democracy, taxpayer money and their credibility in return for a shiny new toy and the vague hope of luring biz that has yet to work out for any Kansas City pet project.
