Gordon Parks Gets Big-Name Boosts
As we head toward this Thursday’s court hearing in Jefferson City on renewing the school’s state charter, I wanted to take a moment to express thanks on behalf of Gordon Parks Elementary to our many supporters.
During this charter renewal fight, we have made many new friends and grown our ranks of supporters, some of whom have stood strong with the school since its founding some 14 years ago. It is our supporters who make an essential difference in how Gordon Parks provides a safe, secure, caring and focused environment for learning. The school’s support has come from across Kansas City, ranging from financial backing to helping children learn as volunteer mentors and tutors.
Today I want to share our latest video story at www.SaveGordonParks.com – a story we call “Supporters”. Listen to the testimonials from Kansas City leaders such as Jim Nutter Sr., Michele Stowers and Sr. Berta Sailer as they talk about the importance of Gordon Parks’ mission to teach children from our urban core.
Save Gordon Parks - "Supporters"
Supporters are part of what makes Gordon Parks such a special place for Kansas City’s children who are most at risk. So, a big THANK YOU from our extended Gordon Parks Elementary School family to all of our wonderful supporters.

You need to state this more plainly TKC.
ReplyDeleteThe school board is in a bind on this one. If they don't go along with Nutter they will find themselves quickly replaced but if they do support Gordon Parks than DESE might take them apart even quicker.
It will be interesting to see how the Airick and Crispin dynamic duo get themselves out of this one.
Tony, please forgive me for being off topic, but I know that some KCMO residents use this site, because I have played them & they have noted my handle "Funkhouser".
ReplyDelete"FICS is currently down until further notification due to hacker activities"
I figured out how to access their backup server. It is working now if you change your settings to "fics2.freechess.org".
Respond here, if you need further help. There are not many people online right now, because this is not generally known information. I expect this to improve as the 'workaround' is disseminated.
Chess site? Really.
ReplyDeleteKC is screwed.

ReplyDeleteTony is stating the case clear enough.
Gordon Parks is not sponsored by the KCPS nor does the KCPS have any say in the matter. The state school board revoked the charter due to poor test scores, not the KCPS board. The outcome of the case will have very little impact on the plight of the KCPS.
The main issue is that all stake holders in the school(community, parents, students, etc.) want the school open, but the state does not. It is a very tricky situation.
If your grades are low, STUDY HARDER. It is that fucking simple. Quit whining about low grades when obviously the teachers suck, or the students suck, or both. The State has figured that much out, much to the chagrin of its supporters.
ReplyDelete300 p.m. you're a real dumbass. The KCPS board has no dog in this fight, Gordon Parks is a charter with its own board.
ReplyDeleteI was too busy watching Michele Stowers to listen to whatever she said, but I agree 100 percent with whatever it was. Affluent blond hotness packs influence with me and every red-blooded male.
ReplyDeleteFeed the kids. Feed all the kids. There should be no hungry children in this city if you want to make this a great city
ReplyDeleteProblem is the kids' scores have been every bit as bad as the KCMO School District ... sometimes worse.
ReplyDeleteThis particular school is failing these kids badly.
Are we supposed to IGNORE that?
@11:35 Your point is the issue. The test scores are not being ignored; that is why the school is being shut down.
ReplyDeleteMy limited understanding is the focus of the charter is to help kids who are in some very bad situations. Thus very few enter the school at the level a kid is supposed to be at.
The school offers a great deal of support to kids and their families. The school does not get good test scores, therefore the school sucks and must be closed because all that really matters is the test scores.
The parents choose to send their kids to the school knowing their test scores suck. Are we supposed to ignore their wishes? It is a tough call.
With George Peppard leading the A Team, what could go wrong?
