As the 4th of July approaches and Kansas City violence remains constant, Congressman Cleaver and KCPD Chief Forte tout Shotspotter technology as a way to help reduce crime.
Just now Congressman Cleaver pledged to work for more funding for the program already budget at more than $700k.
Congresman Cleaver said: "My intention in securing funding for this program has always been to give law enforcement another tool in their arsenal against crime . . . I am pleased to know ShotSpotter is having such a profound impact on fighting crime, prosecuting cases, and building bridges of trust between officers and the community."
Chief Forte echoed the Congressman's remarks and spoke of the effort to build trust with the new tech . . .
KCPD CHIEF: "This is one important part of the solution in creating partnerships with the community . . .a lot of people accept gunfire as part of the circumstances of their neighborhood . . . This technology will show residents that we are listening to their complaints. . . We are listening."
The Chief assured media that the tech wouldn't be used to record personal conversations unrelated to an investigation and attempted to put KC Crime in perepective related to our constant homicide count.
No police presser is complete without a look at "guns on the table" and this example seemed exceptionally relevant.
Officials noted these guns had been siezed with the help of ShotSpotter and they also showed shell casings obtained with ShotSpotter info.
The Chief said that the ShotSpotter system would help police as soon at the 4th as he remarked "We expect to be busy."
UPDATE:
KC's gunfire detection system relayed 1,178 incidents of possible gunfire so far
Police: Shot Spotter system leads to arrests
With all the fucking murders in KC and how they're increasing by leaps and bounds, how the hell can these assholes claim anything good about it?? Amazing, just fucking amazing.
ReplyDeleteKC SPYING = Detroit.
ReplyDeleteWe need realtime stats.. make and model of the weopons used. Shots fired, hits and missed. Product liabilty of manufactors. Black market origins.
ReplyDeleteOk Tyrone, you and Jamall go to 20th and Prospect and start shoot in' these blanks up in the air. While you doin that me and Shawansay is gonna go rob the Church's at Gregory and 71. We meet you in an hour at the fishin lake by Swope Park where my cousin Carmello gonna say we been with him all night. Fuck whitey on 3
ReplyDeleteSo, Shotspotter is up and running in K.C. and has been for awhile now?
ReplyDeleteIf so, when is the KCPD going to let the system tweet locations of detected gunfire?
Baltimore and Boston both have Shotspotter and every time the system detects gunfire, someone with Shotspotter or the PD tweet locations of detected gunfire.
Or is the KCPD going to hide this info too?
You might think that the KCPD is all over social media and keeps us informed, but compared to other large cities police agency's, the KCPD is way behind the curve. They barely do the minimum and most of their tweets are way after the fact.
It could be worse. We could be Mission, Ks.
ReplyDeleteOne big circle jerk.
ReplyDeletehey dude, 4:32, relax it's working, you have to see that, niggers are shooting each other at a awesome rate and the co. that make this technology is making money and hiring so everyone wins.
ReplyDelete9 months, $700k and 6 arrests and Forte calls this a success!! I have no doubt this system works, but these 6 arrests I wouldn't be bragging about.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't appear shotspotter is working. Why aren't there any leads in the 19th Prospect mass shooting?
ReplyDeleteI got one word for this expensive technology: Shitspotter.
