TKC Fun Fact . . . This high school graduates more Latinos than all of Kansas City Public Schools Combined: New west side high school to open in August
Another Fun Fact . . . The building is a freebie and served as a trade for Latino support of Mayor Sly . . . Given that it's for the purposes of graduating youngsters from high school . . . It's not the worst trade local Latinos have made.

Tony,
ReplyDeleteThis building was NOT a freebie and did NOT serve as a trade for Latino support for Mayor Sly.
Alta Vista purchased this building for $700,000 see http://www.kctv5.com/story/17290281/charter-school-purchases-vacant
This was the fair market appraised value for a school building that had lay empty for three years.
The KCPS has sold vacant school buildings to three charter schools: Hogan Prep, Alta Vista and Academie Lafayette.
If anyone should get some kudos, it should be the KCPS school board. They did the right thing and fairly sold these buildings to successful charter schools. This gives needed funds to KCPS and gives needed space to a few charter schools, a win win situation.
They Mayor had nothing to do with these sales.
thank you
