The article fails to mention that both the Adhoc Group Against Crime headquarters is less than 300 ft from where this incident took place nor does it highlight that Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church is nearby (within two blocks). Crime fighting in Kansas City is an absolute failure to the extent of being embarrassing for both the Police and the City. The Third District Councilperson sits on the Board of Adhoc Group Against Crime. Don't assume the failures are because resources are scarce but rather the apportionment of those resources; typically those funds are doled out like tic-tac’s to anyone claiming to provide a layer of crime intervention.

ReplyDeleteThis area is a complete shit-hole. Even when the new East Patrol is finished four blocks from their it will still be a crime-infested ghetto. I wish the documentary from the mid 90's on HBO called 27th & Prospect was available somewhere. This area will never get better.

ReplyDeleteThat documentary is crap! Trying to compare an area to 20 years ago is like comparing your appearance to when you were a child. Its so insignificant that is almost not worth mentioning and certainly deceptive particularly when you know that 20 years later your like 300lbs and bald.
ReplyDeleteThat area is different 20 years later? Yeah, for the worse. It's become more blighted and more murders. Just a couple of years ago the serial murderer Terry Blair was doing his killings there. Although the same ol' East side grifters like Alvin Brooks who was in the film are still around taking cash in one hand while holding a candle in the other. The Green Duck is still there. It's still decrepit and crime-infested. You're right, it really has changed.
ReplyDeleteThe whole of Prospect Avenue is a fucking war zone. Just try to drive from North to South, the entire length and I guarantee you will be terrified at a minimum and probably mugged, if you make the complete trip.
