Kansas City local government officials are desperate to strip away any semblance of power or control of the city's purse strings away from the voting public.

THANKS TO SOME DESPERATE BUT EFFECTIVE CITIZEN PLEADING IN THE "NEIGHBORHOODS" COMMITTEE . . . COUNCIL DUDE JERMAINE REED WAS PREVENTED FROM PUSHING THROUGH A CRACKDOWN ON THE NEIGHBORHOOD TOURIST DEVELOPMENT FUND COMMITTEE!!!
Take a look at Councilman Reed's proposed resolution . . .
"Legislation #130321 - Directing the City Manager to provide mandatory training for all individuals appointed to the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund Committee and develop an avenue for feedback and appeal process for applicants that failed to get their requested level of funding from the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund."
Translation . . .
THE CITY COUNCIL IS ONCE AGAIN TRYING TO STRIP CONTROL OF NTDF AWAY FROM RESIDENTS AND TURN IT INTO YET ANOTHER CITY HALL SLUSH FUND!!!
Full disclosure: My mom is on this committee but she was out of town yesterday and didn't bother to give me a heads up about any of this drama. In fact, she only left a fiver and a box of Fruit Loops by the basement door. She's back now and brought me a t-shirt. But I digress . . .
Remember that last year Council Lady Jan Marcason wanted a piece of NTDF and almost came close to holding an illegal meeting in order to get her way.
Yesterday, some impassioned testimony put a hold on Council Dude Reed's effort . . .
But the die has been cast . . .
THE TENURE OF MAYOR SLY JAMES AND THE EFFORTS OF THIS CITY COUNCIL HAVE BEEN FOCUSED ON REDUCING VOTER AND CITIZEN INTERACTION WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND THIS RAID ON NTDF IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE!!!
Now, training for NTDF members wouldn't be a bad thing but an appeals process does nothing but circumvent the decisions of a board that was selected by the Council.
KICK-ASS TKC INSIDERS TELL US THAT THIS IS REALLY ABOUT COUNCIL DUDE JERMAINE REED FEELING THE HEAT FROM HIS CONSTITUENTS WHO DIDN'T GET THE KIND OF FUNDING THEY WOULD HAVE LIKED!!!
And yet again, under the leadership of Mayor Sly James . . . City Hall would rather work to change the rules to get their way rather then accept the fiscal limitations decided by voters.

Lack of education and training is where problems arise in all areas of business and government.
ReplyDeleteSo basically, rather than redirect eco devo funds that are being misused downtown, they're going to try and misuse MORE funds for eco devo in the 3rd District.

Eco devo is important, but portion control should be a factor. This city is eating a small salad for dinner, and an entire three tiered cake for dessert.

Now they feel sorry for him b/c he's saying he spent it within in his worthless "charity" and they are buying it. That's why he's trying to hold another "event" and he's saying he will recoup the loss. Bullshit! He needs to give the money back or be prosecuted and go to jail where he belongs or have his check garnished - oh wait he doesn't have any viable employment just like most of these idiots who run these "charities." I applaud the folks who have jobs and run them on the side but the folks who are doing it as a living are mostly nothing but con men/women.

7:29 and 7:56, Jermaine is only following orders from his handlers. They're pissed because Juneteenth didn't receive funding from the committee. It didn't receive funding because it was INELIGIBLE! So Jermaine wants to bend the rules for his handlers' pet projects.
