TKC NOTE: Take a look at this thoughtful analysis of the Kansas City Royals and their chances this year from Craig Glazer. Check it:
Is it time to trust the Royals?
‘Well, I spent some time in the Mudville Nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know I took some lumps when the Mighty Casey struck out.
So Say Hey Willie, tell Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.’ Centerfield – John Fogarty
Should the impossible happen and the 2013 Royals win their division you can look back at last night’s 2 victories over the Boston Red Sox as the turning point. How big a deal was winning that double header at Boston on the road? Well, sports fans, it’s been over forty years, all the way back to 1971. In fact, you can count on both hands how many double headers the Royals have won over the past ten years. Yes, I am well aware that we won the late game due to the fact that Boston walked in what became the winning run. However, our lowly Royals have been in first place nearly the entire first month of the season. For this troubled franchise that in and of itself is almost a big deal.
The Royals spent all their money on pitching. The starters have been very good so far. Big money guy Jamie Shields is looking like a major league ace starter. The other guys; Santana, Guthrie, Mendoza and Davis have all looked solid. What is becoming more and more clear is that this team has little power in the line-up. Billy Butler ain’t scaring anybody. The other glaring weakness to this point is overall offense. More and more it’s looking like Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas are far from being American League hitting stars. So far, Alex Gordon, once dubbed ‘The Next George Brett’, is the best overall player on the team outside of the starting pitchers. Lorenzo Cain could be that young phenom hitter this team has dreamed of for decades. ‘Salvador’ Perez is still a player we are all hopeful will show some true power at some point.
Just calling it the way it is, it’s still a group of minor league players brought up by the big league franchise at a price. Let’s face it, as of today, neither the Royals or Kansas City Chiefs have one superstar player. Yes that includes Charles, Bowe and Hosmer. For the most part, they are unheard of outside of Kansas City. Okay, to be fair, if Dwayne Bowe was at P&L or Westport people would certainly notice him. Maybe Charles and Hosmer to a lesser extent. In L.A. or New York, sorry, no dice. Why, you say? Both franchises have stunk for decades. The last and only superstar this city has had is Tony Gonzalez. You’d have to go back to Marcus Allen, Neil Smith and Derek Thomas for the Kansas City Chiefs. As for the Royals, you have to go all the way back to George Brett. Johnny Damon and Carlos Beltran became national stars only after they left Kansas City. That’s the way it goes. You have to win to be noticed.
So as one who has been so down on the Royals, I am going to be open minded and say this: based on what I’ve seen this team can compete for a wild card this year. Their hitting must improve dramatically for this to take place. The lack of home run power is a major concern. Remember, the ‘Brett Era’ Kansas City Royals never had a true monster power hitter. What that team had was two, three or sometimes four players that could break twenty together as well as timely home runs and even base hits to win games. That group consisted mostly of Brett himself, McCrae and Amos Otis. Later Al Cowens and the occasional John Mayberry or Steve Balboni. The current team has not shown they have this capability as of yet. It will be difficult if not impossible to compete for the post-season the way this team is hitting as of now. The Royals are going to need career years from Gordon, Butler and a couple other young guys like Cain or Perez to make this season memorable. There is always a chance that we can purchase or trade for a power bat late in the season. If things stay the way they are, look for this team to possibly play five hundred or a little better. Yes, that’s a major improvement but there are no parades for teams that finish five-hundred and don’t end up in post-season. Until that happens, enjoy all the new bars, t-shirt day, family day, bobble-head day, George Brett day and any other day they can think of to bring fans out to the stadium.

Gotta agree with Craig on this one. This year it's important to keep an open mind and maybe see where we stand around the all-star break.
ReplyDeleteThanks again Craig for reminding all of us of the importance of birth control and the necessity of safe, legal and if necessary government funded abortions. You serve the cause well.
ReplyDeleteDamn it took you 17 games to jump on the old bandwagon.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteI don't even read these Glazer articles I just jump right to the comments where the real entertainment is happening.
ReplyDeleteROYALS STRONG, everyone else WEAK
ReplyDeleteWho gives a flying fuck what Craig Glazer thinks about anything...
ReplyDeleteCraig Glazer makes me want to be a better man
ReplyDeleteAgreed, well thought out Glazer
ReplyDeleteRoyals suck, Chiefs suck, you suck.
ReplyDeleteOh you won a bet or two on football now you know baseball. Everyone knows the Royals are losers.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew how to quit Craig glazer.
ReplyDeleteCG, baby you on fire my man ..keep bringing down the house!!!! Do what you do baby ..haterz be hatin on glaze..
ReplyDelete....GLAZEAMAZING.....!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlazer is proof you can't fix stupid
ReplyDeletecraigs betting and sports knowledge is as phony as that dead rat on his head.
ReplyDeleteRoyals, you kidding, if they were in any other division they'd be in last place.
ReplyDeleteMe gay, nah.

ReplyDeletewhen you get through staring at your belly button, consider a cleveland steamer on your forehead. If you dont know what that means , ask harley. He is a known fecal freak.
ReplyDeleteFuck Harley. He's going to be a hurtin unit.
Delete... so, Craig, who wrote this for you?
ReplyDeleteGlazer when you don't put yourself in a story, hard to rail on your ass. I agree the Royals might have something this season. It's too early, but a good start and the pitching is best in years. Just need those bats to sing.
ReplyDeleteWho said Glaze doesn't know sports. He does.
ReplyDeleteI think I played baseball with Craig at JCC.
ReplyDeleteGlazer = The WORST thing on this goddamn blog
ReplyDeleteThis baby's pablum is what to expect from an ungifted amateur writer/ prognosticator such as glaze. He's bombastic and aggressive enough to convince Hearne and tony to make room for him in their blogs, but he then fails because he doesn't have the intellect or patience to come up wth anything insightful. Worse, his writing skills are on a middle school level.
ReplyDeleteThat's what happens when you waste decades committing crimes, rather than occupying your time learning ways to be productive.
I don't know, I agree with Glazer for the most part. Have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteIt must be the other way around, Glazer is blowing Tony. Perioed.
ReplyDeleteWhy attack Glazer? This article is about the Royals. Looking good.
ReplyDeleteThis is just MORE GLAZER SHIT, it would be better for you to scroll right on by this one...
ReplyDeleteHal McRae was the former DH and manager who is in the team's Hall of Fame. His son, Brian McRae, was the team's centerfielder in the early '90s.
ReplyDeleteAnd Glazer can't spell their name.
Then we get deep insights on the present team like this:
"‘Salvador’ Perez is still a player we are all hopeful will show some true power at some point."
Huh? I have no idea why Glazer put the guy's first name in single quotes, but since he obviously has never seen the guy play, allow me to inform him that Salvador Perez is RIGHT NOW the best defensive catcher in the game, and second place really isn't that close. He's that good behind the plate.
This post is nothing but name-dropping masquerading as knowledge. Or, in short, a high school sophomore book report after skimming Wikipedia.
GLAZER STRONG . . everyone else WEAK. Grunt grunt!! Click Click!!
ReplyDeleteHey Glazer you rat, David Spade said it perfect last night about Reese and it applies to you as well, "If you have to explain to someone you're famous, then you're technically not that famous."

Glazer...stupid to the end. As he said "The last and only superstar this city has had is Tony Gonzalez. You have to win to be noticed."
ReplyDeleteGonzalez didn't win shit while he was here so what exactly are you trying to say? Just another article recycled from Hearne's site. Glazer is so damn stupid he probably wears a helmet when he sleeps to avoid further damage.
Glazer's writing is the equivalent of greasy anal spew.
ReplyDeleteTony, you promised no more Glazer. These posts are awful on your otherwise great site.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Harley; Real Harley, your law suit threats, defamation, all track back to the same SureWest IP. The verdict is in, you lie. You were right on one thing, a hard rain did fall yesterday, just not the one you talked about. We aren't done with you, son.

I'm also thinking of a tv show

coast to coast...this town is just
too small for someone like me.
have a great day.
Pack your bags and get the fuck out! You're more irrelevant here than you were at KCC. You're finished.
ReplyDeleteNewsletter, blog, TV show my ass. If you had a newsletter you couldn't resist posting it, you shitheel
A hard rains gonna fall, right on your little punkin head, pussy.
Harley, I see you're still a liar. You said you'd never comment again on KCC and, alas, you have. That would make the always right Harley WRONG. This town isn't too small for you, but your over inflated sense of self worth, yes.
