When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one city to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with two states, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all neighborhoods are created equal, that they are endowed with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Let it therefore be known, that we, the citizens of the collective cities, towns, townships and neighborhoods within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area do believe that the states of Kansas and Missouri have become destructive to the greater ideal of our civic life.
We therefore seek to withdraw ourselves from the ties that bind us to both Kansas and Missouri. We desire to unify our collective civic entities into a new governmental body, one that is locally governed and represents the goals of its people. A new community free of statehood, a new Republic, a place dedicated to its citizens and the ideal of becoming America’s Creative Crossroads.
Therefore let it be known as the REPUBLIC OF KC.
