The price tag for Kansas City's Toy Train Streetcar seems to be spiraling out of control . . .
Check it:
Streetcar requires $58.7M in bonds for waterworks
KC Biz Journal: "Kansas City’s plans to build a streetcar line will bring some collateral costs: The Water Services Department has begun selling $58.7 million in bonds to pay for water infrastructure improvements. The 25-year bonds will be used to pay for 19 miles of water main replacements, water treatment plant and pump station improvements, and water main relocation and replacement work necessitated by the installation of the city’s 2.2-mile, $102 million streetcar line along Main Street."
Anyone who might be concerned about Kansas City's finances would wonder . . . When will it ever stop?
The Answer: Not any time soon given that Mayor and Council seem enthusiastic about establishing more TDD's across KCMO in order to pass rigged votes.
Meanwhile . . . The only REAL consequence from this eco-devo scheme isn't the transit utopia that politicos and local corporate types have promised but really just Kansas City getting stuck with another bill.
DEVELOPING . . .
UPDATE . . . AFTER POLITICAL PRESSURE FROM THE WATER DEPARTMENT AND CITY HALL . . . THE KC BIZ JOURNAL BACKED DOWN AND "CORRECTED" THEIR HEADLINE . . .
And yet again we get a glimpse of Kansas City "correcting" anyone who dares disagree . . . I'm not "correcting" this headline because our toy train boondoggle is a fact of life no matter how much local government wants to clean up this despicable atrocity against local voters.
Maybe the revenue from the major league sports team in the Sprint Center will pay for it.
ReplyDeleteWait.
This is all wonderful news; however, don't even mention the word NIGGER, or you may have to die.
ReplyDeleteYou can't spend too much to give the city what it needs.
ReplyDeleteQuiet. Adults are interested in this subject.
ReplyDeleteAs for the water bonds:
Will KC Get credit on the EPA mandate for this money?
It would be a shame to this $50 million to just go unaccounted for like it another $15k from City Hall.
"You can't spend too much to give the city what it needs."
ReplyDeleteWhat it needs?
The city need a structurally balanced budget far more than a tourist attraction that barely covers a couple of miles.
Streetcar supporters have lost touch with reality.
Will we be able to tie the current mayor and council members onto the tracks as part of the ribbon cutting on the first day?
ReplyDeletePerhaps we can also put their pictures on the letterhead of the city's Revenue Department.
Mr. Blandings Dream Home..
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can make the sewer improvements into some type of water ride like at Schlitterbon that will flush its excited riders to their destinations in a brownish froth?
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious you didn't read the article
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you couldn't tell me what year the small mains replacement project started.
ReplyDeleteHOW MANY TIMES AND YEARS IS THE PUBLIC SUPPOSE TO PAY AND PAY AGAIN FOR SEWERS AND INFRASTRUCTURE? THIS IS CRAZY!! WHERES THE MONEY???
ReplyDeleteThis is not only an obvious misquote of the article but also a flat-out lie. Only 4.8 mil. of the total is going to lines effected by the streetcar, it says it right in the article.
ReplyDeleteIf you're upset about the 4.8 mil. being used then then say that, don't lie and create bias.
Fuckweasel Mayor!
ReplyDeleteB.s. city hall accounting. We wouldn't need the 58.9 million if not for the streetcar. It is sad that Russ Johnson and his cohorts are lying to kc again.
ReplyDeleteI think a previous commenter had it right when he said that this is an INVESTMENT.
ReplyDeleteDo you even know what that word means Tony?
We have to invest in our infrastructure to maintain our great city. That is a concept you don't seem capable of comprehending. Don't make the rest of the city pay for your ignorance.
We'll have 2mi of toy train but the sewers will bust and it will wash away with all the rest of KC's shit. Why not use existing tracks. Why go for the most expensive mode in and area where it will do the least good for people who need JOBS? I agree with spending money to better our infrastructure. I just don't think it's being spent wisely. I have zero confidence in the current decision makers.
ReplyDeleteTony didn't misquote the article. He posted the headline and the most relevant excerpt. The streetcar liars want to twist the facts and they don't want anyone asking questions or voting.
ReplyDelete(Reuters) - Michigan Governor Rick Snyder cleared the way for a state takeover of Detroit, declaring that the birthplace of the U.S. automotive industry faces a fiscal emergency and that he has identified a top candidate to assume its management.
ReplyDeleteWe'll no doubt be next at some point with this current crew in charge.
Sly sold us out.
ReplyDeleteLet's build a domed stadium. The streetcar should go there. Put a scAmway office in it just like they do in the NYC. It can deliver the scAmway scamees to the office.

Funk wins!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget about the bridge that will have to be replaced over the interstate highway if the streetcar can not be derailed.
