Take a look at another ground breaking Internets development right here in this cowtown . . . Written expertly by Kansas City's greatest author Whitney Terrell
The Free Network Foundation takes on Google in Kansas City
This community building effort is even more impressive than all of the entrepreneur hype that bombards Kansas City with just about every speech from Mayor Sly.
More detail on the groundbreaking Internets effort . . .
Free Network Foundation
More on the founder Isaac Wilder:
Free the Network
Money quote:
"Wilder is the 21-year-old co-founder of the Free Network Foundation. Motherboard first caught up with Wilder at Zuccotti Park during the fledgling days of Occupy Wall Street. The Kansas City native seemed to be running on little sleep. He’d gone hoarse from chanting relentlessly over the first three days of a populist movement that would soon sweep the country and the world. But there was an undeniable urgency and excitement when Wilder told us about the efforts of the FNF, a non-profit, peer-to-peer communications initiative striving to liberate the global Internet from corporate and governmental interference."
And so . . . This evening it's important to note that it's not just corporate capitalism that has sparked growth in Kansas City but also a great deal grassroots tech-savvy expertise that seeks to change the status quo.
DEVELOPING . . .
I want my free internets!
ReplyDeleter they getting a tax break too?
ReplyDeleteLong shot.
ReplyDeleteno tax break this go around, however they are giving extra free sticks of cheeze out.
ReplyDeleteThere is no Google Fiber
ReplyDeleteI think we should talk more about that Great Demorat: MD Rabbi Alam!
ReplyDeleteSmell the stench of Alam all over the party.
@9:31
ReplyDeleteThen what are the people at 43rd & State Line using? I'm not trying to be a smart ass; if you know something we don't please share details.
Free, free, free!!! Get a fucking job and pay like everyone else. I get sick of all of the handouts to people who are capable of working but refuse to do so because they feel they are owed something for nothing.
ReplyDeleteTIF is corporate a corporate handout. Why shouldn't residents get the same breaks as corporations?
DeleteAnon 9:54
ReplyDeleteGo to hell. If you have a job, then good for you. Don't get sick. You're only one illness from homelessness. I'm sick of people like you hating on the poor. You serve your corporate masters well, slave.
Fuck you 11:04
ReplyDeleteBeing poor is sad but at same time don't mean the rest of the world who has to work their ass off and shouldn't have to provide to all the others in the world either
.
the rest of the world who has to work their ass off
ReplyDelete------------
Ignorance.
Poor people work harder that most CEOs. Get a reality check.
Fuck you 12:22
ReplyDeleteSome of your taxes go to the poor & you don't like it. Too fucking bad. No one gets a line item veto on where there taxes go. I don't want mine to go to the oil industry, but we give them billions of subsidies a year. I don't want my tax dollars going to wage war against a country that did not attack us. You don't welfare to the poor, I don't like corporate welfare. If you don't want to pay taxes then quit your job. Paying taxes is a civic obligation. Its a way of giving back to the community & contributing to the common good. You're a greedy, selfish bastard.
He's not greedy, and selfish. just a mean fuck. and I wish we had free internet for all the people. So i believe it should be federal mandate, or UN mandate. But then comes the censorship of ideas, because "they" control it. Which means its still out of the hands of the people. And there must be a way for the people to communicate. To broadcast the idea of freedom, of movement, to produce arts and fulfil the human spirit. just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteNo all you assholes like seeing the working class have to support the non working class because the mass majority of them could work but they won't. So fuck you all! Hey better yet lets just all quit working and sit around waiting for hand outs. It seems to me the new American way to do things.
ReplyDeleteThen what is next James free computers so the assholes who don't work can stay home and surf porn and play on social sites all day. See you stupid prick the more you hand out the more they will want. I see help wanted signs everywhere so work is out there. But then maybe you don't work and want free internet service.
ReplyDeleteGoogle is offering free Internet for seven years if you pay the installation fee of $300, which can be paid at $25 a month for a year. That's about the price of a carton of cigarettes (I think--I don't smoke). Who really can't afford that?
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with all the folks who commented on corporate welfare (aka corporate theft from taxpayers), but that's for another day.
We give the oil industry $4b a year. How much does the government cheese cost?
ReplyDeleteGoogle uses the offshore Double Irish and the Dutch Sandwich technique to cut their taxes by $3.1 billion over the last three years.
ReplyDeleteHere they use the Double Sly and Barbecue Sandwich so they don't have to pay one dime for anything if they don't want to. Quite deal for KC huh?
What Google Fiber?
ReplyDelete@ 11:03,
ReplyDeleteAgain, give us the details
He went hoarse from chanting?!? How much chanting does it take to lay a meter of fiber? Can I do that, too, instead of paying for it?
ReplyDeleteAnother American deadbeat.
