In a recent KMBZ interview and on the show of my homegirl Darla Jaye . . . Mayor Sly inadvertently gave a shout out to our TKC Blog Community.
To wit . . .
MAYOR SLY IS ON RECORD SAYING THAT HE DOESN'T REALLY CARE ABOUT DETRACTORS OF KANSAS CITY'S UPCOMING TOY TRAIN STREETCAR!!!
That's right . . .
MAYOR SLY WAS HIT WITH AND ANSWERED OUR TKC TOY TRAIN TAG!!!
In a word, there's only one way to describe this sentiment from Kansas City's Mayor:
Arrogant.
Sadly, this seems to be Mayor Sly's approach to local government and Democracy in as much as the vote to approve the Toy Train really subverted local Democracy.
On the bright side . . .
THERE REALLY IS NO OTHER WAY TO DESCRIBE THE UPCOMING STREETCAR THAN TO CALL IT WHAT IT IS: A TOY TRAIN!!!
It's not mass transit, it's not a viable eco-devo scheme . . . And it really isn't a something that sprang from a demand from anybody but cheerleaders and the corporate elite.
Worst of all . . . The Mayor of Kansas City isn't really concerned with how the vast majority of voters feel about the project that will cost this town hundreds of millions.
DEVELOPING . . .
Nice pic.
ReplyDeleteIt is mass transit. It is an eco-devo measure. And you certainly cannot and do not speak for the majority of Kansas Citians.
ReplyDeleteReally? I don't recall the majority of Kansas Citians saying yes to a fucking toy train either. Maybe after the first homicide on the train the mayor will open his eyes and see what the real problems with this city are.

ReplyDeleteIt's "eco-devo" alright: Economic De-evolution
I do not like Mayor Sly- at all. But I do like the toy train- TOOT!!! TOOT!!!
ReplyDeleteWait till everyone sees all other city services cut for the city to cough up the other $100 mill this thing is going to cost. Can you say mayoral recall election?
ReplyDeleteI think the mayor's 'us leaders' versus 'you whiners and criticizers' probably a pretty accurate view he holds.
ReplyDeleteIs it an arrogance? A class attitude, upper versus lower? I'm not sure but we all know that leaders do have a certain attitude about THEIR thinking versus that of the proletariet.
Washington has it...they spend the money and they just think they know better than those who cough it up through their taxes. Higher class people have this intellectual arrogance about how things should be done. Which is why they always manipulate the masses to get their will in the final analysis.
This toy train thing really is a boondoggle. If they had a bigger vision, they just didn't think enough of the voters to sell it. Or knew it couldn't sell.
Is it a tourist attraction or mass transit? I suppose it's an attraction because there've been no plans to link workers homes to their jobs and back. No studies to see where workers live and where they work. And how to get them door to door. Otherwise, it would have been an interstate endeavor from the get-go, linking buses for the interim. To get people from 39th & Paseo to 87th & I-35 where the mcDonalds and Taco Tico is. And all the other places. College Blvd, 75th, 63rd, 95th, sm parkway, and all the places west.
But we don't see any of that, linking a NS rail on many thoroughfares with east-west crosstown busing, NY style.
The two designated destinations make zero sense. Even for hotel users. Downtown to Crown Center, on to Westport and on to Plaza makes more sense. Hotels to eateries and back. And shuttles to the Casinos.
And then extention to Zona/KCI and down to a Waldo, College Blvd crosstown link, Anything else just isn't well thought out, IMHO.
That's a whole different plan, never discussed?
ReplyDeleteSly is fisting the butt of every taxpayer and smiling while doing so.
Nobody will challenge Sly. He has won the battle before it started.
ReplyDeleteTKC=Sad Clown,
ReplyDeleteAre you naive or just dishonest? A two mile run from one entertainment district to another is not mass transit.
Poor sad clown. He must not know what mass transit is...a way to move a large amount of people from home to work in a reasonable time. This train does none of that, it is for the tourists who want to go from the River Market to Crown Center.
ReplyDeleteAs for the majority of citizens, I would say put it to a city wide vote if you want their opinion. Leaving the spending of at least $100 Mil to a few hundred does not represent the majority.
Mass Transit is when a priest transports an altar boy into the rectory during mass for a little altar wine and...
ReplyDeleteLet's go over Sly's accomplishments. A streetcar nobody wants and certainly the city can't afford. What about public safety, streets, sewers, water, etc? What a loser.
ReplyDelete10:06 pm. Great comment.
ReplyDeleteWORST mayor ever. Our last worthwhile mayor was Charlie Wheeler. Only LOSERS and LIARS since then.
ReplyDelete+1 8:05AM This town sucks. Since when is it cool for public servants to not care about public opinion? Only in Kansas Shitty, Misery can this be touted as an accomplishment. Gimme a break! This Mayor is so clueless to reality that he may be just a drone... somebody unplug his battery pack!
ReplyDelete8:05, the only reason Wheeler didn't suck is because he fell asleep at the beginning of his term and didn't wake up until the end, thereby doing little damage.
