A reminder to local idiots and innocent bystanders who live among them . . . Don't shoot guns into the air for New Year's Eve. Over the past few years this practice has killed more than a few innocent people and it's one of the dumbest local traditions that's practiced by almost every demographic group.
Check the presser:
Celebratory gunfire is dangerous and illegal
Shooting a firearm within Kansas City limits is illegal on New Year’s Day and every other day.
Police warn residents not to fire weapons over the holiday. Celebratory gunfire can be deadly. Blair Shanahan-Lane, 11, was killed by a stray bullet on July 4, 2011, outside an east Kansas City home. The shot that killed her was fired into the air some distance away.
Officers will arrest and jail anyone who is caught shooting a firearm into the air. In addition to being deadly, these shots disturb neighborhoods and divert police resources away from other crimes. During the last New Year’s holiday, Kansas City Police received 149 sounds of shots called from 10 p.m. Dec. 31, 2011, to 5 a.m. Jan. 1, 2012.
“Firing a gun in city limits is against the law 365 days a year, and that includes New Year’s Eve,” Chief Darryl Forté said. “Residents should be able to celebrate the holiday safely and not be in fear of being struck by a stray bullet. Officers will be on the lookout for this illegal gunfire and will arrest perpetrators.”

Tell your homies as much TKC.

ReplyDeleteSend the Mayor and city Clowncil out to the east side wearing bullseye targets. That way, the NYE gunfire will be concentrated in a smaller area and be more manageable.
It'll look like Forte "Made a Difference".
Something tells me the hard working illegals at the CAN center will be firing off rounds, all while the lazy KCMO pd stands by and does nothing. Just like the 4th of july.
ReplyDeleteOuch!
ReplyDeleteAnyone old enough to remember when this shit wasn't an issue?
ReplyDelete“Residents should be able to celebrate the holiday safely and not be in fear of being struck by a stray bullet."
ReplyDeleteWho he addressing that to? Obviously any intelligent person already knows that.
The country is so brain dead or addicted to cheap, free, and abundant electro diversion and entertainment they have to be reminded 1:53.
ReplyDeleteSince when do urban dwellers listen to the KCPD? And you fools thought having a Black Chief would make all the difference and still there's nothing. Fools.
ReplyDeleteI like 12:28 PM's idea. Let's make it happen!
ReplyDeleteOur "culture" is such a fucking horror show.
ReplyDeleteEvery demographic group? I've yet to see residents in Mission Hills or The Plaza standing outside firing guns into the air.
ReplyDeleteQuadruple check your facts before making yourself look like an idiot.
This is a tradition in 3rd world places like Mexico, Africa, and the Middle East. Of course the idiots here in the states are going to think Huh Wha? when the Chief says something like this.
ReplyDeleteWOW Big advice from our do nothing KCPD. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe girl that was killed was NOT killed because a bullet was "fired into the air". The bullet was fired into a lake and the waters surface tension caused the bullet to skip and strike the girl killing her.
ReplyDeleteThe "presser" lies about the facts.
Maybe if all the white folks lined up on Troost from 18th to 85th and let some lead fly toward the east at 11:59:59, we could start the New Year off with 100 homicides, minimum.
ReplyDelete5:49 is correct.
ReplyDeleteLets see they want you to believe that they the KCPD is going to catch someone maybe shooting in the air when they can't even catch a dipshit using a gun to kill people.
ReplyDeleteI swear the media dept of KCPD has to be one dumb ass bunch of idiots
We need a Star Wars system over the east side to vaporize bullets before they hit their target.
DeleteThese incidents happen largely in the third and fifth districts. Cops sit in their cars and wait 10-15 minutes for the gunfire to stop. What else are they going to do?
ReplyDelete5:31, those council districts might not classify as 3rd world yet, but firing shots in the air has been a tradition there for years.
Super Dave is right the media department at KCPD are a bunch of dumb fucks.
ReplyDeleteWhy right now they're out there tweeting about crime.
How about preventing crime or at least trying to solve it.
They can't even make a decent video.
Criminals everywhere are laughing at the KCPD.
