TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! REPORT: KANSAS CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS CANCEL HOMELESS STUDENT PREVENTION PROGRAM THANKS TO MISSOURI CUTS!!!

Check a shocking Kansas City education report that signals the real cost of the lack of resources for local students . . .

"The Kansas City School District terminated the entire homeless student prevention services staff today because DESE rescinded a $150k grant because of their noncompliance of the 2010 award. The district has 1100 confirmed homeless students who will be negatively impacted by this decision. The district is required to provide services to homeless students under the McKinney Vinto Act. #State takover!"

So what have we learned?

In the era of a new Superintendent, the KCPS still has yet to come to terms with the many challenges that facing the District that not only include the ongoing debate between management vs. governance but also entail effectively coping with fewer resources during the ongoing Great Recession.

DEVELOPING . . .

  3. John Covington and his incompetence are the gift that keeps on giving even after he is gone.

  4. If it was 2010, Covington might have been gone when the problems occurred. Anyway, they have the $ to keep serving the homeless, even without the grant. If they manage to afford a lobbyist for the board, they can afford to serve these kids.

  5. I agree with 8:06. This is shameful.

  6. KC Schools are screwed. Dissolve the district.

  7. That's one effective way to keep cash out of the hands of the crooks running this city.

  8. I just contacted the KCMSD homeless student services department which is listed on their website:

    Homeless Student Services
    Charles Ford cford@kcmsd.net
    Tel# (816) 418-8640 FAX (816) 418-8685

I was advised that there is no one in the department by that name.
Now- this is not an uncommon response by the school district since the website is only updated to send parents on a massive search to find the information they are needing or the website is not updated at all. Mind you- I was shocked that anyone answered the phone. That is a first! What a shame that the district was not able to maintain this funding to help these students.

  9. Maybe ace board member Crispin Rea, who laughed off the insider $34 million contract investigated and stopped by Channel 41 will have an explanation for this. If the board spent as much time actually governing the district as they do running around working on Google fiber and other PR gimmicks, maybe the kids would have at least a chance for a decent education.
Just the latest lack of attention-to-detail and basic management in an endless list of incompetence.
What will it FINALLY take to get the state to take over?

  10. it's time to end the KCPS.

    For good.

  11. "... noncompliance of the 2010 award." What sort of a clown wrote that?

  12. Don't be so high and mighty. You know what they meant.

The District didn't comply with the award they were giving in 2010 and the subsequently had it yanked.

    Yanked really good.

  13. More Nicastro foolishness to help Kiki and the disgruntled ACE crowd screw the district.

  16. KCMSD STAYS LOSING. Airick is and always will be a loser. Stephen Green is a loser too....I was saddened when the state did not take over. The district is a joke - this is a travesty of education and no one on that ineffective school board cares.
