SHOW-ME THE TAX FIGHT OVER SMOKES!!!

While debating racial b.s. and other prejudices . . . Missouri voters will consider a question about a cash crop . . . Take a look at The Star's editorial obviously bleeding over into news coverage . . . Just like a blog:

Missouri to vote on raising nation's lowest tobacco tax

For a bit of perspective from the other side that most media outlets are sacrificing at the altar of political correctness . . .

The Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store (MPCA) Association is on the offense — last week, the group launched a billboard campaign to motivate residents to vote no on Proposition B, which would raise the state’s tobacco tax by 760%

On this one . . . It's hard to decide if I dislike cancer more or less than higher taxes while weighing the fact that cheap smokes make it easier to spot skanks.

Knowledge is power and voting is difficult for the few dozen people in Kansas City who still partake in the dirty habit.

  3. Feds made a serious mistake, taxing smokers to cut back on cancer and its costs. Fact is, lung cancer is a quick kill and shortens lives.

Think how much the government could save by not having to pay out social security for another ten years to dead smokers!

Worse, as a humanitarian consideration, they're heavily taxing poorer people who are more likely to smoke...making them even MORE poor.

  5. Once the government takes over healthcare, every bit of our behavior becomes subject to cost benefit analysis; therefore, because we cost the government money, they can tell us how to live our lives in the name of the common good. I believe the technical term for that is COMMUNISM.

  6. None of this money will ever reach it's intended destination once it reaches the hands of the "buck stops here" Politicians.

  7. Slap an extra $1.45 tax on every big mac, beer, pizza, bag of chips, and all the other mass produced crap and poisons Americans believe they need to survive. Problem solved.

  8. You got that about poisoned crap. I don't eat anything that comes in a box or can...

You don't seem to get that it is NOT a quick kill, but requires a great deal of health care, therefore a great deal of costs. Who pays the extra costs? You and I, the non-smokers do, of course. I don't agree with using the taxes for education or any other purpose, however. It should be used only to defray the health care costs.

  10. Who's going to pay the extra cost of the obese. Your and I, the non obese, of course.

The point I am trying to make is we are all screwed no matter what.

  11. I am not opposed to "sin taxes" and I support Missouri getting in line with other state's tax rates.

  12. I have no problem with soda taxes either, as I shouldn't have to pay for extra health care for the intentionally obese (no I don't think all obese people want to be obese, but when I see someone who is overweight carrying a 72 oz soda around, yes I do believe that is intentional obesity). Why should I have to pay extra for their health care if I don't drink soda? Why should I have to pay to take care of smokers who intentionally allowed themselves to contract lung cancer if I don't smoke? Or the alcoholic with cirrhosis of the liver if I don't drink? As far as I'm concerned, legalize all drugs and tax the shit out of them. Because that's right, you guessed it, we are paying for health care for those untaxed drug addicts as well. Basic math. If you want to sin, go for it, as long as YOU pay for the consequences, not me.

  13. Sin tax is a way of getting the 47%to pay some taxes.

  14. Tax the heck out of those rude, puff smoking bastards! For God's sake stay at least 12 feet away from the door. It's your habit; not mine.

  15. I hate smokers because it infringes on MY right to clean air. Me eating a big mac does not affect you whatsoever. But you fucking smoke in my face affects me.

Your Big Mac directly affect me. My health insurance premiums soar treating your heart disease, diabetes and otherwise caring for your fat ass, from shoving that shit into your face. There are 20,000,000 smokers in this country. There are 150,000,000 fucking fat asses like you.

  17. they do not want people to quit more money

  18. OK let me see if I can get this right. You can't smoke in 90 percent of the town because it is illegal, but taxes need to go up because why? Ashes in the ionosphere or some shit like that? The city runs everyone out of bars with their anti smoking crap and then hands the casinos a golden turkey by letting everyone smoke there? I'll tell you what is unhealthy. It's these freaking politicians and bureaucrats that don't have anything more important to ponder.
