ReplyDeleteThe Trolley Trail runs for 6.5 miles through the heart of the City -- there are gods knows how many City streets that cross it without incident. And at least the proposed Whole Foods store wouldn't even have a point where any driveway crosses the Trail.
For Pete's sake, oh Lord, when ... oh when? ... will Vickie Noteis stop whining about EVERY POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT?

ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Waldo finally has a chance to trade an eyesore for new grocery store, and these selfish nutcases object because... THERY'LL HAVE TO (GASP!) CROSS THE DRIVEWAY! They may not remember, but not too long ago there were drives to the parking lot at the old Osco store right where they were standing.

Get over yourselves, people. It's bad enough you screw up the whole area for the marathon. Don't expect us to put up with your narcissism the other 364 days of the year.

ReplyDeleteIf I were to oppose these projects, it wouldn't be because they cross the trail. It would have to be for a more substantive reason. I think the hen house project is s horrible land use choice. Wornall is a horrible commercial corridor. This does nothing to help. The project at 51st and Oak is perfect from a use stand point. I hope they design it to fit an urban pattern as opposed to a suburban one.

ReplyDeleteA Whole Foods at 51st is a stupid idea, as that lot is already FULL of university cars. Yes theres the new lot, but a massive grocery store on that smallish spot is development overkill. Like Toy Train, I wonder who's pockets get filled on this scheme.

YOur constant bleating about "food deserts" is just like the "digital divide" farce we just went through with Google.
ReplyDeleteThe reason there aren't grocery stores on the east side is because no one with any sense would invest their own money and jeopardize employees to try to operate a retail store in an area with so many robberies and burglaries, and endless violence and homicides.
And the reason that Google isn't interested in spending money installing fiber in those same neighborhoods is because fewer people actaully live there all the time and there's not much point of offering 100X internet service to abandoned houses and empty lots.
And to understand the major reason for point number two, just refer to point number one.
Until the city and the neighborhoods work together to bring some minor level of safety to the community, anyone who doesn't have to spend time or money there won't.
2:37: I think the new Whole Foods building is supposed to have parking as well as 3-4 floors of luxury apartments. I'm not likely to shop there because their prices run on the high side, but for those so inclined it will save them the drive to Overland Park and Kansas City will pick up some sales tax.

ReplyDeleteTell the whiners to stop whining. Good heavens, the trolley trail is not sacred ground. Brookside is not the holy site of the Ark of the Covenant. Are those poor dears getting smashed at 63rd and Brookside? NO. They like the charming ambiance of running past faker old world charm.
The traffic will bother few and the drive to 93rd and Metcalf will be a thing of the past if Whole Paycheck lands in Brookside.
The Bingham School site is perfect for a new grocery store. The Price Chopper at 85Th & Wornall is looking a bit down at the heels Bingham site offers an opportunity to build a store that fits today's Waldo area. I look forward to the school building land to be put to use.
Our city is constantly evolving. We need to fit the changing world or die from atrophy.
KCI is also a victim to the ones who fear change. Every time I land in KCI I am depressed to see the weird shadows in the terminals even on a clear shiny day. I think the sad little stores shoved into the corners of the "green zones" past the security gates are quite ridiculous. As a lay-over airport we truly suck. As an airline hub... no Mr. Tony! We simply are not up to snuff.
Leave the trail alone you fucking property ruining sucking developing assholes.

KCI is the best airport to fly in and out of that I know. I don't go to airports to shop and have 7 course dinners I go to catch a damn plane going else where.
