For quite some time now Austin has been enjoying a great deal of hotel development.
Sadly, because of a pathological inferiority complex, Kansas City politicos have been studying that Austin, Tx. building boom and want to bring that same level of construction to Kansas City. Unfortunately, Austin has a great many things going for it that this cowtown doesn't.
To wit . . .
AUSTIN DEVELOPMENT WILL BE TOUTED TO ENCOURAGE LOCAL TAXPAYERS TO PUT HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS INTO A SUBSIDIZED 1K CONTENTION HOTEL PROJECT!!!
It's kind of discouraging that after all of the cash this town has spent on pet projects, taxpayers are still willing to go into ENORMOUS DEBT when local leaders imply that we're not good enough. Like it or not, Kansas City is NEVER gonna be Austin and local leaders should know that as they sell another pricey eco-devo project.
DEVELOPING . . .
Nice hat.
ReplyDeleteAustin is one of this country's most overrated towns. I hope our leaders take a look at the property taxes people there pay before imitating anything in Texas.
ReplyDeleteAustin has oil money.
ReplyDeleteAustin has music
ReplyDeleteAustin has a better college.
ReplyDeleteWe have drug money, maybe they should tax that.... And ammo.... Lots of ammo. Which might be a good way to curb crime.
ReplyDeleteTKC: How dare you put that photo up with no links. Cruel.
ReplyDeleteAustin has summers that make the one we just had look mild.
ReplyDeleteKeep Austin Pretentious.
ReplyDeleteWhile the clown car has been in Austin, there's been a shooting in the Cosentino garage and two at 16 th and Grand.
ReplyDeleteThey might want to come home and work to protect the hundreds of millions of tax dollars they've already dumped into downtown instead of being coopted by the Chamber swells again.
Texas always uses taxation to take from the poor and middle class and give to the rich.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT FOLLOW THE TEXAS EXAMPLE!
If the business model for this hotel really adds up, then the developer will have no problem getting a private loan from a bank or insurance company. Obviously, the developers are putting the touch on the Nail Tech and asshats on the council because the numbers do not add up.
ReplyDeleteProbably the most important difference is that Austin has a LOT fewer NIGGERS than KC.
ReplyDeleteKC always uses the guise of taxing the rich and then leaving the poor to rot.
ReplyDelete3:49. Move there.
ReplyDelete3:49: You'd feel kind of funny in Austin. They feel the same way about yankees as you feel about blacks. And they define "yankee" as anyone from north of Travis County.
ReplyDeleteTexas doesn't tolerate NIGGERS as well as Kansas City. You just keep those smelly, fucking animals up there.
ReplyDelete6:23: OK, but remember when you see the bumper sticker that says, "Keep Texas beautiful. Put a yankee on a bus," they're NOT kidding.
ReplyDeleteThe Anglos don't like Yankees, & I'm a real Yankee, but the Mexicans liked me & I liked them. Give Texas back to the Mexicans.
ReplyDeleteKansas City doesn't have anything like the University of Texas bringing in tens of thousands every other week for a football game. Not even a close comparison.
ReplyDeleteAustin is just the Portland of the 90s, and even then it was overrated.
ReplyDeleteBoth of those cities' mottos should be: "Exactly 1/2 as cool as everybody says."
Kansas City doesn't have as many Texans as Austin, which is a point in our favor.
ReplyDeleteIf we could buy Austin for what it's worth and sell it for what its residents (even the south-of-the river cretins) think it's worth, we could afford a bunch of 1,000-room hotels.
